No, not really but it is still important. It depends a lot on where you want to go.
If you want to get into a good college/ institution, good grades are always a plus. They're also very handy for getting scholarships automatically when you apply for university. (Help with the killer tuition fees) However, a GPA of 3 is still a good start. It's the grades 11 and 12 course marks that are most important for admission.
Many see grades as a good reflector of how successful you'll become because usually, and I'm saying usually, good grades reflect students who are hard-working and who are determined to do well. If you are already use to being hard-working in high school, chances are you'll continue to be hard-working and thus, successful in the future.
Also, when it comes to going to post-secondary studies('cause this is where I am right now), balance, time management and independent studying are all very important skills to have and maybe in high school you can start working on these skills if not already.
I think these same skills are an asset for many successful businesspeople/ icons out there and not just for college hopefuls. It's not just about marks; it's about the whole package.
Oh, and know how to deal with stress - especially when exam time comes and you have a gazillion papers and projects to hand in.
Good luck! :)

It depends. I really didn't take high school that serious, it was more of a social thing. I had a gpa of 2.5 but after high school I realized how much I wanted to go to college. 3 classes away from having a Masters Degree and have maintained a 4.0 gpa throughout masters program. So in my life, high school grades didn't determine my success. However, because of grades, I didn't receive scholarships, which would have been a huge help in college. That is something to think about. Also, I'm a teacher, so there are lots of people who make more than I do that never went to college, but my job choice had nothing to do with money.

NO! and anyone that tells you yes is has alot of waking up to do... i was very close to failing out of high school ... I hated it... was not interested in it at all .. i knew what i was going to do for the rest of my life and i knew that i didn't have to know most of the stupid stuff they try to teach you... i have been very successful post high school.. Find something you love doing and follow that.. unfortunately if you want to get into a good college.. that might be a different story.. By the way don't let anyone ever tell you you cant be successful if you never went to college...

It certainly makes life a little easier. If you're focused in high school then college will be much easier. I barely graduated with a 2.0 GPA. A few years later I went back to school and had to retake a bunch of classes. I did excellent in college and managed to get an AA and a BS. I know it would have been an easier road if I paid more attention to my grades in High School. My advice would be to stay on the track you're on. Even if you don't decide to go to college, it will be an excellent accomplishment that no one can ever take away from you.

My dad was a C average student that almost didn't graduate, and now he's a PhD in Computer Technology and makes 100+ grand a year.
An example of going the opposite direction is that my older sister had a 4.0 average, but after she graduated she never went anywhere and now works dead-end jobs and can barely pay for her kids to eat.

It depends. Because if you want to go to a great college then a higher GPA would be better. But in general, I don't think it reflects on how successful your life is.

I always scored quite high on the standardized tests in H.S. My grades on the other hand were nothing to write home about...actually they got pretty bad at the end. When I got to college and got serious I made honr roll immediately and graduated *** laude with a B.S. and some grad work...if you are going into the sciences or engineering,e tc., it's important to have a good math background in H.S....other than that it doesn't matter.

To the extent that they help you to get into college if they're good. But they're mostly a stepping stone. And "they" have done studies that show that straight-A students aren't as successful as B-students or even C-students...because of lack of extra-curricular stuff, social life, etc...
I mean hey, as cliche as it is...Einstein flunked. :P
But they do help provide the step you need to get into college. After college, high school grades don't really count at all.

im also about to start 11th grade and have a gpa of about 3 and i ask myself that question ALL the time!!!!
i guess it just depends on the kind of person you are... you could have gotten really crappy grades but be really good at..... cooking or something and make it really big in culinary arts
i think it just depends on what you want to do when you get older (but grades also help you get into college...)
hope this helps!! ♥
