newborns are usually only awake for 2-3 hours total thru the day.

Be happy!! Some babies never sleep. My first was just like this - slept all the time. I thought he was a very boring baby, but the doctor assured me he was fine.
My second baby never slept (truly night and day from the first as he only slept about 6 hours in a 24 hour period). I was exhausted until he was three and finally slept through the night. Oddly enough, it was during his 3rd yr checkup that I mentioned him still not sleeping through the night and my doctor saying that this was a big problem and not normal. He went through a bunch of tests and ended up taking medications to help him relax in order to sleep.
I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't worry (from personal experience), but if you really are worried, call your doctor to put your mind at ease.

Sounds like my daughter! She was that way from about 4 weeks. She sleeps from 10 PM-7:00AM (and I have to wake her up!!) She also takes quite a few naps during the day. She's my little sleeper!!! She's healthy though, but if you're worried check with your pediatrician.

Consider yourself blessed. All infants do is sleep, eat, and poop. Think of it, she's just been through something very traumatic, Just learning to breathe, eat, poop, and don't forget being born! She'll spend a lot of time for the first few months sleeping and if she sleeps for 6 hours, you're one lucky mom. Just keep an eye on her and make sure she's o.k. All she needs is food, clean diapers and your love right now.

It's normal :)
Newborns require a lot of sleep. Just make sure she is getting fed enough. Mine did the same and at 3 months, she still sleeps a lot.

It is actually pretty normal and you have been blessed some babies dont sleep as well as yours. My daughter has been a good sleeper since week 1 and she still is at 15 months. She sleeps alot and I am glad it gives me time to get my work done and relax. If you are really concerned talk to your ped.

You are just lucky. Babies sleep a lot, as much as they need. In Greece we have an old saying: sleep nourishes the baby, sun nourishes the calf, and wine makes an old man feel young. So, as long as the baby eats well and responds fine to you when he is awake, I think sleeping a lot is good for her.

It is not uncommon for infants to sleep/drowse for 16-20 hours a day. Makes ya wonder why us moms are still so tired if our babies sleep that much, lol.
