It's totally unamerican. And a bad idea besides, unless one prefers mediocrity.

I agree. The present system of taxing the teams with high payrolls doesn't help a bit. The teams that can afford to spend can afford the tax as well. The salary cap has helped in both football and basketball, even though there are ways around it. The argument that that is restricting free enterprise does not hold water. MLB is a monopoly, and a government endorsed one at that. They are not subject to the monopoly laws that other businesses are. I am a fan of the Cubs, one of the higher spending teams, but still think that the smaller market teams should be able to be at least competitive. I think having a little more parity would benefit all of MLB, particularly the smaller market teams. Without it, I think most of the smaller market teams will eventually fold. I think having these caps in place might also slow down the trend of playings playing for 5 or 6 teams in their career. I think fans can identify better with a team if the roster remains a little more constant from year to year rather.

I believe that a salary cap is well past due in Major League Baseball. But until the owners grow enough of a backbone to stand up to the player's association in this regard, and are willing to withstand a strike/lock-out like the NHL saw in 2005-6. This won't happen at least until Bud Selig is out of the Commisioner's chair (2009), as Spineless Bud has his nickname for a reason. And even at that point, ALL (even my meager-spending Pirates take in ~$30MM in profit annually per Forbes) franchises are profitable in this day and age so it would be difficult to get the owners to stick together.
The game would benefit greatly from a balance in power (ref: NFL). But I'm afraid that we'll never see that happen.

I'm sick of baseball as it is, sick of the fact that the same 8-12 teams compete every year. A salary cap is a bad idea? To the dumbasses who think that, you ever wonder why football is more popular than baseball these days?

As a Sox fan- 2nd highest payroll- I'm not bothered too much by it. It's just the nature of a franchise. You win more games, get more money to sign players, and have a better team.

There is a salary cap, and there is a cost to the teams that exceed that cap. If you are saying you would like to alter the plan that is in place today let us know what you would like to see. If you are just talking about individual players there are no limits.

I think MLB needs a salary cap so that one player can't make as much as a whole team. People like A-Rod can't carry the whole team so they don't deserve to make that much money.

I think you don't know s**t about baseball. from your previous answers, this is proved true. There are other owners out there who are just as rich, they aren't willing to spend the $$$ out of their own pockets, so they do not get rewarded with the best players.
