I guess I could make that decision in 3 seconds by saying I do as I sincerely feel that changing myself for the better can make a difference to my life.

For others, they may take months, years to change or they might never.

Often, by changing yourself you provide a positive role model for others to follow. I have also learned that many times when you find error in another person, the same character trait may be found in yourself. That is why it irks you so much, because what really bothers you is your own imperfections. So I say, the easiest thing to do would be changing yourself first.

yourself. I have done it slowly- over the course of years. I used to be "wild". I knew how I acted was wrong and changed 1 bad habit at a time. I only had the strength to change one bad thing at a time, after I didn't do it for months then I moved to the next one.
this included tobacco, beer, speeding, painkillers, not exercising, blah blah blah.
whenever I tried to change all my ways at once I failed every time.

If you wait for others to change you are saying that your way is correct and others are wrong-

I still have some pretty bad things but at least I am on my way- next is the financial part of my life-

what is yours?

It is definately easier to change yourself just because of peer pressure. When everyone else says one thing, and you believe another, sooner or later you will start to question yourself. It is difficult to hold onto your beliefs while everyone else says you are wrong. For instance, you know that stealing is wrong. But let's say you lived in a society that encouraged people to steal. For a while you will say, 'Well, these ppl are ridiculous, I know that stealing is wrong and I will never do it.' But then a few months go by and everyone is doing it, and you start to question yourself. You say, 'Well, maybe there's nothing wrong with it since everyone else is doing it'. It is more difficult to remain confident you are correct and they are wrong, and to hope that someday everyone will see it your way, especially when you are the only one who believes it.

It is easier for you to wait for others since that takes no effort from you. But it is quicker to make a change by changing yourself because you have the motivation and it is hard to motivate others. Sometimes if you change, others will be motivated to change also.

Changing yourself would be easier, but YOU have control over that, You don't want anyone to change for YOU, you want them to change for themselves, or they won't be happy with you or themselves, if you are ready to make a change, that is something you have control over and I think you should start there.

Well, in all truth waiting for others to change themselves. It is easier to help someone to face their problems than it is for many people to look at their own issues.
