When me and my Doberman are not home' I would like to electrify a 10 foot section of my fence. (between 2 buildings) My fence is 7 feet tall.

I have a "cat door" at ground level that the small critters use.

Can anybody be a Bob Villa for me?

If its a wood fence just nail some small finishing nails along the top about 2 inches apart or put a few strands of barbed wire,or inbed some double edged razor blades. You shouldn't have any legal problems(since all are not deadly) Or just buy a fence charger($25ish) but only the super stupid wouldn't know how to ground it(disable).Try planting roses or Yuca or poison ivy on your side of the fence.

Electric Fence For People

The best way is to just buy an electric fence charger. The installation instructions will be included.

Check with the local building codes. Some cities and states will not let you install fences in populated areas.

I remember a story of a guy that had just started electronics school and he electrified a fence, just using the 110V hot leg from his breaker panel, without a fuse. A little girl had just got out of the pool and touched the fence. This killed the little girl. The guy tore out the electric part of the fence and said it was because he didn't want to hurt anyone else. Plus if the electrical inspector was able to view it, the guy would have been charged with murder or at least manslaughter.

Make your life easier and your dogs lives safer Buy some welded heavy gauge chicken wire at a home improvement store it's inexpensive and easy to put up. bury some of the chicken wire in a *L* shape benethe the fence line and secure the remaining to the exsisting fence. You can also put electric fencing at the top portion of the fence to deter him from jumping it.

Just trick everyone by putting up a warning, electric fence/ electric shock hazard sign and see if that deters them! No lawsuits in that plan, ........maybe. Good Luck.

I hear your frustration. But, alas putting up an electric fence is illegal. (unless you have cattle). I would put up a very official looking sign indicating video surveillance is operating on your property. Then, if that doesn't do it ask you local police what to do. They should know.

Better check with code enforcement in your city before you embark on this project. I wanted to do the same to keep coyotes from climbing and digging under the fence but I would have been in violation of our city's codes and subject to fine.

I smeared axle grease on the top of my 9ft hurricane fence. It wont hurt anybody but it does make it hard to hang onto and it will leave evidence on anyone who does climb over it.

You are opening yourself up for a LAWSUIT. Check with the local authorities before you attempt it.
