I think it might get worse, but I doubt we'll ever have to pay for the "big ticket" events like the Super Bowl.

My guess is that we'll see more and more mid-level events moving to cable or pay-per-view, as in the case of baseball and basketball playoffs being on TNT or ESPN, channels for which we pay. This will probably continue, with the big networks broadcasting only the finals of certain events. They'll leave the early rounds to the cable players.

I think plenty of games will still be shown for free, but that they will slowly pull a few in an effort to have people subscribe to packages like Sunday Ticket, Extra Innings, etc. I think college sports offer plenty of opportunities for pay-per-view income because they focus so much on regional coverage.

As for ESPN and Monday Night Football, that's a little misleading because the "old" MNF is really now on Sunday nights with NBC. It's the Sunday night game that will really be the best - or feature - matchup, while ESPN's Monday night coverage is no different than what they previously did on Sunday nights. In effect, they really just swapped nights.

Probably not. It's all about which venue can generate the most revenue. Network TV means hundreds of millions in advertising revenue, especially for an event like the Super Bowl. The only revenue generated by Pay-Per-View is the number of buys, which can amount to big bucks, but nothing close to advertising revenue. The major networks are paying a combined $3.1 billion a year for the broadcast rights to NFL games. Golden Boy Productions or HBO PPV simply can't match that. Rest assured, you will not need to pay anything other than your usually cable bill to see the Super Bowl anytime in the near future.

Yes, probably some point in this world. Everything is all about profit these days. Wherever you go or whatever you buy it is getting overpriced. So many people watch Superbowl every year that its almost considered a semi-holiday to some people. So yes it probably will someday have to get payed for, and probably payed at a very overpriced price that is highly unreasonable.

Probably, because it's always about money. They already pay you to go to the game, so YEAH they're gonna try to squeeze money outta ya.
