My son has been a fussy eater since 2 months of age. Today as i was going through his 100-peice bottle collection, i noticed the brown nipple that i havent yet tried. Somehow i missed it, i guess.. It fit our Ventair Wide and Drop-ins by Playtex. My son took it very well. But when i looked up the latex nipples, i found an article about it causing babies allergy.. So now i'm apprehensive about using it again..

Also, is playtex, gerber and evenflo only companies make these type of nipples.. Why? Dr.browns, avent seem to only produce silicone..

so anyone have good experience with these nipples, or should i keep looking for something of silicone?

I used the latex ones with my first son...he doesn't have any allergies from it...I think they are just worried now because of the latex allergies out there!! As long as he didn't have a reaction...i'd say keep using it!!

My son had colic for the first 3 months i tried tons of different bottles the ones that i thought worked best for him was the Dr browns bottles the nipples have a very good flow so he doesn't choke like he did on the Playtex vent-air and avent nipples. If u go to the enfimal website u can purchase latex nipples (link below)....they are made to fit the premade bottles for enfamil but the nipple is removable. this is what they used in the hospital. i also found out he was very fussy due to him not getting satisfied from the formula he was on....the Dr switched him to enfamil AR (the pink can) and ever since feeding has been great! Simalic i recently found out has came out with the same type of formula(a bit on the cheaper scale) called simaliac RS (i have yet to find in a store) both of these are thickened with rice starch....they say they reduce spit up...but the pedi said it will also help with fussiness as well as gas. I would try to use the latex one a few more times times to see if these is a allergic reaction

It won't hurt him. The problem with latex is that it is a "build up" allergy, which means the more you are exposed to it the greater your chances are for developing an allergy. Those nipples have been around for a long time but that is probably the reason everyone switched to the silicone. I personally only used the Nuk nipples as they conform better to a baby's mouth but a lot of people use the straight ones. Keep looking around and eventually you will find something that he will prefer. =)

It seems as though EVERYTHING in the world can cause allergies nowadays. I have both silicone and latex nipples for my baby (mainly use Playtex Drop Ins). He prefers the latex because it seems to allow a tighter clamp. His lips are able to squish the nipple down perfectly, leaving only a small gap between his mouth and the nipple itself. We also use Dr. Brown bottles (and I think you're right, they only come with silicone nipples) and whenever he uses that, formula dribbles down his chin. He doesn't seem to like that type of nipple as much, so I ended up buying more latex nipples for his other bottles. I think it's a matter of preference for the baby. I don't like seeing my son struggle just to eat, so I got him the latex nipples, even though some claim they have a funny taste or don't like how they collapse in. I say it's up to you and what your baby is most comfortable with.

EDIT: Only bottles that have PVC in them are harmful. I contacted Dr. Brown's and they said they do not have PVC in their bottles.

Actually....a heads up...Avent, Dr.Browns, and all the other "hard" plastic bottles are unsafe over all for infants to drink from, there is a chemical in the plastic that is linked to cause cancer in infants. Throw them away, banish them. Aim for the evenflo original bottles, the one with the soft type of plastic. You can get them anywhere really.
And latex nipples are safe, I have had no problems

I tried using latex nipples but my daughter couldn't get the hang of that natural feel and shape. I'm using Avent silicon ones and she takes them without any problems going back to breastfeeding.

I personally wouldn't ever give my baby a latex nipple because I'm personally allergic to latex. I thiink it may be because a lot of people to have allergies to latex, and could cause serious complications if your baby were. However, I think you'd know by now if you've already used a latex nipple with them.

I used the playtex drop in system for my newborn and we started with latex nipples because they have a slightly slower flow than the silicon. Also, they were easier for my son to seal his lips around. When he wanted a faster flow, we switched to the silicon slow flow. He's 4.5 months old and is using the silicon medium flow.

I have used both and never had any problems with the latex. My oldest daughter has TERRIBLE allergies and we never had any issues with the kind of nipple we used.

I say if your son took it just fine and didn't show any wierd signs of an allergy, then keep working with it! Just keep an eye on him if your worried and as always talk to your doctor if you are worried!

Good luck

silicone last longer and when they get old they don't break into little peicies that your baby can swallow. We used only silicone because my wife has a latex allergy and we thought the baby may have one
