Hopeless for the American people, hopeless for the Iraqi people, profitable for Bush and his puppeteers.

Gates even said today that the difficulty with the political process in Iraq was underestimated. The admiral said that without the political process working in Iraq, the success of the surge is not going to change the outcome. I had some hope there for progress, but I don't believe the parliament members in Iraq actually want a unified government. Many of them have resigned. I believe in the end the civil war in Iraq is inevitable and there will be another dictator. Maybe their government officials will feel differently when they return from their vacation, but that would be a stretch.

The U.S. made a valiant effort to give these people some hope of a good life, but they just aren't ready for it. I think our government officials are aware of this and that's why they are selling weapons to the neighboring countries. I doubt we'll be there for more than a year or two. That's about how long it will take to withdraw all of the troops and equipment.

Not just Bushes Iraq policy. There is no policy that will repair Iraq. the continued Western presence just delays the inevitable and probably results in more death and instability in the long term. The American adventure in Iraq has achieved the diametric opposite of it's stated aim. The only way forward for Iraq now will be a period of civil war followed by the accession of a leader very much in the mould of Sadam Hussein who is sufficiently ruthless to overpower the dissident factions.

I think militarily it is making a little progress, but absent the Iraqi govt doing something, it is hopeless. Biden made good points about the fact that there will never be a powerful enough govt in Baghdad to control all of Iraq.

There is no hopeless things in this world; it is the questions of how much is too much.
When you helping somebody doing the home work for 5 years and that somebody do not even want to do any homework themselves, they don’t even want your help; that is the problem. We waste so much lives and money for what; for more of our bridges to collapse? “Enough is enough” is what people said. Whoever wants to fighting Iraq War forever should go ahead join the military and go for it; so some of our shoulders can come home. I know some said part of Iraqis wants us to stay, and what I am trying to say is: those Iraqis should also join and fight the war for themselves.

Bush's lie-based quagmire in Iraq is a total, unqualified, disaster.

Most Republicans now know it is lost, but they will continue to disingenously bash Democrats and send our troops into that living hell, because they cannot admit they are wrong.

The majority of Americans do. So does bin Laden. He is a huge fan of this war. He all but goaded us into it. It has weakened the U.S.'s efforts in any real war on terror.
