I dont think they actually do.. I think thats like how people imagane them because like in cartoons they have them but my friends mom is one and she dosent wear them...

First of all, for keeping hair in the hat and not on the dishes. They are so high and big because it's fresher. A kitchen can reach really high temperatures, and a long hat helps to get the warm away. But maybe the rat theory can also be true, very funny

That big white hat is a cooling device. It allows for a lot of air circulation and for the chefs head to keep cool
