Mmmm the skies when I was young...I remember thinking that the contrails left by jets high in the sky were long white antennae.
I remember saying "Mommy, Mommy! Look! It's God!" when I saw a pretty sunset.
I remember seeing crescent-shaped shadows on the sidewalk in front of my childhood home: caused by the solar eclipse overhead shining through the worm-chewed holes in the walnut tree leaves.
I remember seeing fluffy cotton-like thunderheads that to me looked like ice cream in a cone.
I remember looking up and watching the lightning fast Leonid Meteor shower with my Dad. Most of which was a flash of light in my peripheral vision.
I remember seeing fireflies and not knowing how far away they were. I remember seeing stars and feeling the same...not knowing how far away they were, either, thinking if I reach up my hand I could somehow catch it, and put it in a jar in my room.
I remember wondering why the moon followed our car home at night. Why didn't it rush by like the street lights did? And why sometimes the moon smiled just at me.
Childhood is a wonderful, boundless balloon floating on lilting convection currents of imagination. I enjoy reliving it with my own children. I enjoy hearing my son say "Look Mommy! That star is covered with glitter and is winking at me!" Magic.

there became plenty much less gentle polution back interior the day (we are conversing the 60s right here). I stay in England and as a new child i will bear in suggestions you are able to surely see a sky full of stars and the Milky way from my back backyard. no longer any further, regrettably, until you circulate proper out into the country and get removed from any cities and the omnipresent orange glow from the line lighting fixtures.

Deep blue in Summer and grey in Winter. I was born in the 1940's and Summers always seemed to be so long and hot. Winters were always cold and lots of snow and fog. This was England. Can't speak for anywhere else.

Dark, sinister, cloudy with burst of thunder and lightning followed by the howling of the wolves.
But all in all I would say they were hopefull.
