I did hear this on a newscast last night. I was switching channels to get the latest update on the tragedy and heard a sound bite about how Bush made a comment about "poorly-run Democratic states" and it was a reference to the fact that the state senators in Minnesota are Democrats, even though the governor is Republican. That's my source. Take it or leave it.

What else would you expect from him? The real culprit is the conservative movement. They want tax cuts and do not want government to do anything. Indiana has just sold its highway system to a private company from Spain. Do you think they will spend a lot of money to keep the roads and bridges in proper repair? If the money we gave in tax cuts were used to support the country's highway system we would have the best roads in the world. The Eisenhower administration built the best roads but that was when corporations were contributing to 30% of the revinue in this country. Now big business pays less than 12%. The states cannot afford to keep up the system, they need federal funding but that is nearly gone thanks to Reaganomics.

I haven't really been paying attention, but how exactly do you blame something like this on a political party and not either faulty engineering or repair jobs?

Really? I didnt hear that. Where did you hear these rumors?
Every newscast I hear is concerned about other things such as what is being done now, interviewing people and monitoring recovery.
There is also the growing concern about structure, why did it fail?
How many other bridges are built similarly? Same builder, same design? Should'nt we be more concerned about that?

yeah, and it's typical and ridiculous how they call it a "terrorist attack"

when anything goes wrong, it just HAS to be the terrorists. no one in America could have made a mistake, no construction worker could have erred, no structural engineer could have done wrong.....it was just some Muslim terrorist who decided to somehow destroy a bridge....yeah right.

get a grip you Bush-lovers, can't wait til he is out of office.

I'm sure you meant that as a joke...

People died and are traumatized and it's not even 24 hours old. Be a little bit more sensitive!
