The two ways I've seen to be most effective are competition and incentives. Decide on a level to which the sales staff should aspire, and set a reward enticing enough to make them want it. Find a way to display the levels achieved by each person (by day, week, month, or whatever makes the most sense for your enterprise). Hopefully, one or both of these will give them the extra push you are seeking.

Be nice to them
Listen to them if they have certain views
Some one could have a good idea
Tell them not to bring to discuss their personal problems in front of customers, wait till lunch break
Know the products well, function, what extra fixture etc.
If some one in ratty mood put them to speak nicely to them, but not in front of customer
You will get great work from your staff if you treat them good
Remember the staff can make or break your company

Instill a sense of ownership in each one of them. Use an in-house incentive investment program for them. Ask each person their opinion before making a decision that will affect them. Ask for suggestions and realize that all suggestions are good if they come from your staff. Make then a part of the company. Learn about their families, their habits, their backgrounds. Treat each as if he/she is an owner.

Give a an extra bonus to whoever sell the most. It could be money,a couple of free nights in a particular hotel something that will give them incentive to work harder for something you know that they will want or like. A free dinner maybe?

You could initiate them to sell more by offering rewards for the first person to...(i.e. sell # of objects in 1 week, etc.)

I find that if you line them all up and shoot one of them the rest generally really start moving when you say jump.
