The Big word here is "Motivation!" People are not only motivated by personal gain - they can be motivated by feeling part of the business and contributing to its goals.
Lead from the front. You can show leadership to staff by:
1. Involving them in decision-making
2. Providing personal encouragement
3. Recognising and rewarding good performance
4. Inspiring them with a vision for success
5. Ensuring good two-way communication

You need to be a good sales rep yourself and walk the talk You should have lots of how to knowledge. Be inspired yourself and not just from a money stand point, of course that's the end result. Your motivation needs to be high and you have to be a good role model. Talk about your personal climb to success. Have successful people talk to them. Also, offer some rewards for meeting personal goals, but don't over do it.

Tell them there is an ongoing contest. depending on the age group of your staff, you could buy small things from the winner once a month. That or have them tell you what they want. although some things might not happen, people like seeing their opions be heard. Boosts moral.

Have you considered telling them that each of them is a part of the larger whole, and that if they can't perform up to the expected company standard that you can always find some one to fill the HOLE there'd be if they were fired for poor performance? Just a thought...
Later Daze! =)

Offer them some kind of incentive to compete for against each other. Money is usually a good motivator

People kill for morning donuts. Or have sales incentives. Most people like cash so a bounce would be nice.

bribery works wonders. take a poll of like, what prize they would like most, and then be like, okay, once you hit this level, you get this prize, this level, this prize, and so on. Make the Top prize something they will want to compete for. nothing stupid. Also, the free food idea was genius. No one stays sad around free food!
