My first was induced and and after about 5-6 hours the doctor broke my water. My daughter was born about 2 hours later. With my second child I was in the parking lot at Wal-Mart when my water broke. My son was born 1 hour & 45 minutes after that. I did make it to the hospital, but the doctor didn't get there in time to do anything but deliver the placenta.

I was almost 38 weeks preggo. I was in the grocery store with my husband! I told him I'd be right back because I had to go pee. I went and when I came back I saw him looking at a rack of sunglasses. I was helping him pick some out when I bent over I heard a pop and felt a warm gush (not a very big one-since my water broke as a slow trickle) and I turned to my husband and said "I think my water just broke!" He turned white! The rest of my water broke in the hospital.

My water broke on it's own at home. I was laying in bed and I could actually feel something wanting to come out so I held it in. I ran to the toilet and released it, but not much came out.
About an hour later, I went to use the restroom and again I felt something come out. It kept on doing this for several hours. My water only came out when I used the restroom. It was weird. I wasn't sure if it was my water or what it was. After 6 hour I finally ended up going to the hospital and they told me it was my water.
I was under the impression that a gush of water would run down my leg when my bag broke, but that's not what happen. Just so that you know, it's perfectly normal for your water to trickle out.

My weekly dr visits were landing on Fridays, and I just happen to be due on Friday, and when I went in for my visit my Dr stripped my membranes(without asking or anything, and I would NOT suggest that to anyone it hurt so bad). And my water broke on Saturday night late like 11:15 or so. But I don't think it would have if the DR didnt' strip my membranes, because I wasn't having contractions or I didn't feel them before or after my water broke. It turns out he was trying to come out face first instead of back of head first and was delivered C-section. but all is good.

My first son was 2 weeks over due and was induced, my water broke with him 12 hours after induction began, which was also my first contraction. Three hours later I gave birth.
My water broke at home with my second son, I arrived at the hospital 21 minutes before he was born naturally.

While I was sleeping, but it was more like a slow leak then a gush. In fact, when I sat up to go pee I thought I might not have made it, just a bit of liquid, but it didnt feel right. I called the hospital and they said to go back to bed (6am) and come in around noon to be looked at. It wasnt even enough to soak a pantiliner while waited but sure enough, it was a leak. They had to induce me though to get labor going....and thats another story.

With #1, it started tricking at home one day, before I was dilating or effacing at all. The doctor broke the rest at the hospital.
With #2, it happened on it's own as I sat on the examining table the evening I delivered. POP!
