y= 6 it's right
4(y-7)+2y=8
4y-28+2y=8

I got 6 as well. Did you plug in 6 for y to test it?
4(6-7) + 2*6=8
4(-1) + 12 = 8
-4 + 12 = 8
8=8
Now here the work for my answer...
4(y-7)+2y=8
4y-28+2y=8
6y-28=8
6y=36
36/6 = 6 so y=6

You its 6
4(y-7)+2y=8 Distribute the 4
4y-28+2y=8 Simplify
6y-28=8 Add 28 to both sides
6y=36 Divide both sides by 6
y=6

u are correct! believe me i was in math honor roll 4yrs in high school 10 years ago..lol but yes u are right.
a) 4(y-7)+2y=8 (look down at b)
b)4y-28+2y=8 (remember PEMDAS; parenthesis, exponent, multiply, divide, add, subtract. multiply 4 times "y" and "-7" then write out the equation as is. u have to get rid of the parenthesis first!)
c)4y-28+2y=6y (remember to always combine the like terms, in this case add 4y+2y=6y-28=8)
d)6y-28=8 (u must try to cancel out the -28 by adding a positive to it so u can get 6y alone:
e.g. 6y-28=8
+28=28 (as u can see the -28 and +28 cancel out and now add 28 + 8 = 36. remember, what u do to one side of the equal sign, u must do to the other side.)
e) 6y=36 (the result is when u cancelled out "28" and added 28+8. since u want to find the answer for "y", u must cancel the "6" by dividing each side by 6)
f) y=6 (since 6 goes evenly into 36, your result is 6!) and u are very welcome
