NFL Team owners receive a huge amount of money from TV networks for the right to broadcast their games.
The networks, in turn get huge amounts of money from advertisers for running their commercials during those games.
The companies running the ads pass that cost on to the consumers of their products through the price of the product.

Most revenue comes from TV deals. Big clubs are followed by millions of fans who want to watch their team play, therefore the club can get quite a bit of cash from TV deals. If it's a big club with a large stadium (and a supporting set of fans), then millions can be made on match-day through ticket sales. But it's important to remember that soccer/football is "lottery" regarding revenue. Winning a Champions League can give a team as much as 70 million Euros in total revenue, but there's only going to be ONE WINNER. It's mostly a losing game if you look at it economically. Take Chelsea as an example: Abrahmovic has spent hundreds of millions to win the Champions League, yet he has yet to win it. When he does, the revenue won't cover the expenses, it'll just provide a slight financial bounce which could prove useful. Ultimately club owners are millionaires/billionaires who want to gamble.

They make a whole lot of their money from TV. Unlike a lot of other sports, there are plenty of opportunities to have commercials in the game broadcasts, and football is so popular that advertisers pay a lot for those commercials.
Also, football tickets are expensive compared to other sports. A cheap ticket to a football game costs about $70, and the stadiums are huge--they hold 70,000-93,000 people. A cheap ticket to a basketball game costs about $30, tickets for baseball, hockey or soccer are about $20. Part of the reason they are expensive is that there are only 8 home games a year for the teams to make their money.

All you have to do is play Madden 06 - current... play the franchise mode and you'll get a break down of how owners make there money through tix sales, merchandise sales. TV stations, radio stations, endorsements from all sorts of companies, bonuses from the NFL depending on how far they go in the season etc...

They all get to split the muti-BILLION dollar TV contract that the NFL has with FOX, CBS, ABC, and ESPN. Then there is merchandising (jerseys, t-shirts, hats, etc.), ticket sales, and stadium concessions.
