It seems to me that Liberals don't mind discussing who is more patriotic if patriotism is defined as redistributing income and funding their beloved Nanny State. Only if patriotism is defined as supporting America do they get testy and drone on about 'McCarthyism.'

Yes -- Patriotism means defending the Constitution.

That's the oath every military officer, every officer of the court, and every elected official must swear -- to support and defend the constitution.

Since "ensuring the blessing of liberty" is right in the preamble, anyone seeking to do that can easily be supporting the Constitution....

And you seem to confuse (again) liberalism and socialism -- they are directly opposed. Liberalism rejects govt regulation of money, socialism demands it.

~~~~~~
Edit to Alieninthehills -- yes, they defend all the things that the Constitution allows --- because they defend the Constitution.
Those freedoms in the Constitution are what generations of Americans have fought and died for over 230 years -- so how you you claim to be patriotic for wanting to betray that legacy and taking those freedoms away?
Can ask a serious question so we can have a serius debate or do you just plan on hurling accustations and stereotyping? Oh wait, you're a blonde. Now I am going to have to define accusations and stereotyping for you and come to the realization you will never be smart enough to come up with a good question.
This is soooo funny.
People like you beat your chests and scream I am a Patriot, I love America.
Yet you lash out against anyone whose definition of patriotism differs from yours and call them a lib, or whatever the slur of the day is.
You say you love America, yet despise all Americans that don't fit into your narrowminded world.
Patriotism is not about blind loyalty to your nations, it is about a willingness to always look for the truth. Patriotism is about making your nation better for everyone, not just the rich.
Yes, I am a Democrat and a patriot, but I am not blind.
More patriotic than someone who supports the likes of the PNAC who are the biggest bunch of Liars who have made up a good part of the Bush Administration. All of their members in the PNAC like Richard Cheney who says he had other things to do than have to go fight in Vietnam are nothing but a bunch of cowards just like you are hiding behinfd your computer.
If you are so patriotic then join the American Army and get your butt over to Iraq if you think you are Patriotic just like all in Bush and Corruption, who have been nothing but cowards all their pathetic lives.
Check who belongs to the PNAC. http://www.newamericancentury.org/statementofprinciples.htm
All should be hauled to the Hague with the Bush Babies and tried as war criminals for their lies for going to war in Iraq. Not a one of them is what you may call Patriotic as they are no better than George Walker Bush the Devil's Spawn.
I'm a lib and I have better things to do than discuss who's more patriotic. Patriotism is personal and just because you don't agree with one side or the other, does not make you unpatriotic. It's called freedom of speech.
My mother is liberal and she is very patriotic. Truly patriotic. I may not agree with her ideas politically sometimes, but I never doubt for one moment that she loves our country and wants what is best for America. We differ on what is best, but that is not as important as both of our intent.
We are very patriotic... and though you incorrectly defined patriotism to us, at least you see that there is more than one way to be patriotic :)
If only liberals would be patriotic - and clap loud enough, dubyas quagmire in Iraq would magically become a stunning success.
It's all the liberals fault that Dubya invaded a country that didn't attack us, sent insufficient troops, refused to plan for an insurgency, and didn't feel it was necessary to devise an exit strategy to assure the safety of our troops.
Darn liberals.
Liberals, liberals, liberals.
