A snail is a caterpillar with a shell. A slug is just a big and slimy caterpillar with no shell

they are the same except slugs don't have a shell and snails do

Everyone answered the same and that's correct, but let me give you a litttle "tidbit" in case you have slugs and want to be rid of them.

Fill something like a bowl with a little beer and leave it in the yard/garden, they love it and will go to it and drown.
