It's generally used to describe people with intersex conditions. Intersex people don't like the term, because it has negative connotations; it's usually used in the same breath as 'freak'.

'Hermaphrodite' has not been used by the medical profession for many years.

no its a medical term for someone born with both sex organs male and female. The context in which you use it could be if you were to call someone a bleeping hermaphodite that would be offensive but I guess thats common sense.

Why should it be? It is merely a biologically correct, technical term for the observable phenomenon of possessing the genitalia of both genders.

people never use it as an insult . its more like a medical term .

not if you are one...I guess....but I don't really know....try asking someone that was born with both sets of sex organs...they would be the only ones that can HONESTLY answer this question...

It's outdated and obsolete. You should use "intersexed" instead.
