Whenever I go shopping at Target or Babies "R" Us I bring my 6 week baby daughter. Usually she's good. Well today we were shopping in Target and my baby wet her diaper, so I changed it. But then she just wouldn't stop crying. It was so weird. I fed her, played with her, rocked her, sang to her and gave her lovies and put a pacifier, but it didn't work. Her peditritian is on vacation. What could it have been? Do you think she could be sick?

I fed her, but she kept pushing away the bottle. I don't know how she could have a bad day. I mean she was happy until I changed her diaper. She was playing with the bar on her baby carrier, giggling and gurgling.

I only eat what my doctor told me to eat while breast feeding. And like I said before, she's any other time I've taken her, she's been fine. One time we were in Target for 3 hours, Walmart for 4 and Babies "R" Us for 2 all in the same day. She fell asleep in Babies "R" Us while I was paying.

If it was gas she had it for a longgg time. She cried for three hours! I had to actually hold the pacifier into her mouth while I wrote out the check. And I heard her crying all the way home. I have a very bad head ache.

There are so many things that can cause this, but here is my thoughts....The most likely cause is gas. Babies often develop gas as their bodies change and grow and as your breastmilk/formula changes. Try some gas drops, generic is fine as long as it has simethicone (and yes its safe). Also, I loved Hylands Colic Tabs (available at Fred Meyers in their homeopathic section). My children were whey intolerant (protein in milk) and I had to go off dairy while nursing one and use soy formula with the other (now she's on rice milk due to soy sensitivity).
Its important to remember also, that your baby can sense your stress, so if you try and try to get her to stop crying and are getting frustrated yourself (totally normal) lay her down in her crib or other safe comfy place, put on some soothing music for her, and leave the room for a cold drink, meditation, or whatever will help you calm down and relax for a minute (up to 15 min is ok). Taking a shower is especially good if you haven't had one that day yet, since its relaxing and you cant hear her crying.
Also, try taking all her clothes and diaper off and looking for red marks that might signal her outfit or diaper was irritating her skin.
If it continues for more then a day with no good naps you should take her to the doctor. DEEP BREATH welcome to parenthood :-)
*p.s. All those who said teething and got razzed..my son got his first tooth at 4 month and some children (though rare) have been BORN with teeth. The average doesnt work for everyone!*

She might have a yeast infection, if it started when she wet her diaper. The urine could have burned as she was wetting, and the moisture in the diaper (even after changing) could be bothering it. Try using some powder (if you don't already) and maybe look into some diaper rash cream.

It also could just be the teething factor. Have any teeth cut through? Or is she just starting? If that is what it is, she is in alot of pain...Origel or Tylenol might be in order. But with Tylenol...make sure not to give her too much.

Okay, I erased everything I originally wrote to write this...

My baby suddenly had a crying spell this morning, which is very unusual for her. (She is 10 weeks old). She screamed whenever I layed her down or tried to breast feed. I rubbed one ear (after she settled down) and she didn't cry. I rubbed the other ear and she SCREAMED!

I called the clinic, and they suggested that I bring her in today to have her ears checked for an infection. They also told me to give her some baby tylonol. I gave her the appropriate dosage, and now she's calmly sleeping. She goes in to see a PA in about two hours.

If your baby is crying like my baby is, then I would check her temperature, call the doc's office (it doesn't have to be her doctor for this type of problem) and give your baby the recommended dosage of baby tylonol or ibuprofin.

Good luck. I am very sorry that my first answer made it sound like everything is fine... You're mother, and mother knows best!

Check her over really good -start with the diaper- look at her head and back , did she lay on something.
She could have a 'bubble' or she could have been frightened by something.
If it is gas try laying her on one side then another foe awhile'
Sometimes babies cry because they are over tired ---cuddle her -rock and make a repetitive noise.
If she has no temper temperature ,diarrhea etc just bundle her and sooth her for awhile.

I think she is a baby and she is crying. Every cry does not need a trip to the doctor's office. She could be having a bad day (yes even baby's have them), she could have some gas, be very hungry and growing (that can make them cranky), be overtired or she could be coming down with something. Either way - just sooth her the best you can. Babies cry! A lot!

I had the same problem with my daughter at that age.

Your daughter is only 6 weeks old and except for very short trips should not be taken shopping unless absolutely necessary.

She may have a problem with the overhead lights at Target or Walmart. They are very bright and they may be very warm on her skin. The loud speakers could be bothering her (music/announcements).

She could also have been very tired and wanted her own crib at home.

Or she simply could be getting a case of sensory overload. Her senses are overloaded - from colors, music and/or talking, to the temperature changes from car to outside to store to outside to car.

There are many reasons she could be upset. I would suggest waiting until she is older to do more than quick errands. If you absolutely NEED to get out, make sure they are very quick trips.

Good Luck and congratulations on your new bundle of joy!

I think she has colic, and yes, gas can take a time in a newborn to be released, so to say...if she just woke up and keep crying she maybe colicky, try massaging her tummy with baby oil and walke her around and try burping her a lot, I hope that helps...if she is not like that regularly I'm 99% sure is colic. If you have mylicon drops that could be great.

I had the same problem when my daughter was that age, turned out she had acid reflux, the doc prescribed some medicine and she was fine after that. The only thing that soothed her was holding her in my arms upright, or using a baby sling (my favorite baby item) You should try one babys love it and they are really easy and inexpensive to make but too expensive to buy.

I had this issue with my daughter too. She'd be all fine and giggly unti I changed her. I chalked it up to her getting cold. You know, they're all warm in their diaper mess, and when you change it they are cold. I don't know if that's really why, but that's the conclusion I came to! Good luck!

ps,
I took my daughter everywhere with me since she was born. They don't really care where they are, as long as you are there to take care of them. Don't let yourself become home-ridden because you have a baby.
