...because if look at wild animals all they want to do is procreate. That seems to be their purpose. We humans are animals too, so why would our bodies allow ourselves to become attracted to members of our own gender? Wouldn't it intentionally ruin that "circle of life"? Could homosexuality be in our heads?

What do you think?

First of all, I think this is a perfectly valid question.

I don't think that it fuels hate - questioning is good - even when the subject matter is sensitive and in this country often requires a PC answer.

So, thanks for asking.

I don't think I have much more to add to a lot of the answers here. Fact is there are a lot of examples of homosexuality in the animal world. And in regard to procreation, as a queer person myself, I sometimes wish that I'd have the option to procreate with a woman as well, so that I could have that what i guess would be a somewhat more satisfying way of CREATING a family with a partner as I would be able to with a man.

However, if I end up meeting a woman whom I want to spend the rest of my life with, I don't think the "drawback" (personally, for me) of not being able to procreate with her would stop me from being with her...

Not exactly an answer, but that's all I have to say on the subject.

THanks for the question.

Hey Dolce Vita, all things natural are natural. You see animals procreate - but that's really not all they do. They do other things, you know :) Like playing and cuddling, yes, with the same sex too, and sure, there's a lot of same sex sex in animal life too.

And gays DO have a role in procreation.

On her reports on mountain gorillas Diane Fossey speaks about the alpha male, the secondary males, but also periphere males - those that for some reason go live outside of the group, some 10 meters further in the bush :) She can't figure out why, nor do evolutionists have found a reason... but we are here. We must have a reason in procreation.

And I always have to think about those masses of straight couples that always seem to have one best gay friend....

You have to realize that a lot of animals live a life known as, "survival of the fittest" (and even the gay ones there use things like surrogated mothers to survive). Humans (and domesticated animals) among some others don't live this type of life. If we did we would be having to mate as soon as we came of natural age, and having 10, 20 children. Over time we have lost these needs as we populated and took over the animal kingdom, as the highest standing player. Wherever homosexuality came to be, it's defiantly important to understand this, how we as humans aren't under constant pressure to procreate to survive.

animals in the wild don't WANT. they are driven by instinct. and we are animals too. however much we would like to deny it.

No straight man would ever tell you that being straight is a choice, because to do so would be to admit that he had experienced natural gay urges from which he had to choose.

but the very existence of bisexuals who can become fully aroused by either gender proves that such divergent urges can and do occur spontaneously and independently of each other

if you are bi however then the freedom to act upon whichever urge you want would make it a choice. that is from the head if you want it to be but if all you have are gay or straight urges that choice is removed.

there is only the option of abstainance left which only the most pompous and selfrighteous religious fundamentalists would suggest.

We are animals. So technically, all we do is natural. It is apparently natural for me to sit at a PC and type in Yahoo answers, and natural for most humans to ***** about anything different than themselves.

Personally, I think the other animals have it better than we do. They don't loose their food source if they're the wrong religion, or don't express their gender properly, or any other crap like that.

My twin sister is bi-sexual and I can clearly tell you it is "not just" in her head. It becomes very obvious, when I am around her and she says to me "Look at that babe." So I respond "what babe?" And one time she points at a guy then the next time she is pointing at a girl.

She is not crazy, a lunatic, or sick. It is just the way she was created. And trust me when I tell you, I remember seeing and hearing her actually flirt with boys as well as girls, before we started kindergarten.

I love her with all my heart and would never change anything about her personality. If it were legal for her and the partners she has been with for the last few years; they (she, another girl, and one guy) would get married to each other. Oh, if only THEY were allowed to be as happy as heterosexuals!!

I would like to site The African black swan. In which two male partners will find a female swan to fertilize an egg as a surrogate mother and then the two males will raise the child on their own.

This along with the fact that over 1500 species have displayed homosexual tendencies makes me believe that homosexuality is a natural part of life.

Actually, there was an exhibition in Berlin a year ago that showed gay animals. I also saw a documentary on a colony of gay penguins.

I'm serious, by the way. So, most people are heterosexual, but some are homosexuals. It's natural.

Thats like comparing apples to oranges. We have brains wihich are much more smarter and complex .Most animals dont stay with their mate after sex for life. Is that the kind of animal you wanna be compared to? Except maby pegiuns and their father sits on its egg the whole incubation period while the mother is all warm and eatiing winter long..

i think it is natural because truthfully, i think all animals are bi and just go with the flow.
because i have 4 cats at home, 2 are girls and 2 are boys and even thought they are nutured they still hump each other and i've seen two boys, a girl and a boy, and a girl and a girl.
for humans though because we are way more advanced maybe we just are born to prefer one gender. i mean i've known gay people to fall in love with people of the opposite sex too....
