You may as well ask whether you should have your newborn girl circumcised and I think we all know the answer to that one. The human baby comes fully formed with all the equipment intact that is required. Why does anyone think they should take pre-emptive action in the case of the male penis. Its mutilation. Only Americans routinely circumcise their sons (and others for religious reasons.) No men in Europe are circumcised and do not suffer more infections than circumcised men. They wouldn't even think to ask you in hospital if you wanted to circumcise your baby. It's barbaric and unnecessary. If you think it doesn't hurt because the baby is little, you would be wrong. At least an older person has some understanding of what is going to happen to themif it became necessary. The other posters make it sound like they're doing the child a favor by getting it out of the way early. Thirty years ago when I did not circumcise my son, they told me to just keep it clean and occasionally pull back the foreskin a little in the bath. Now they don't even recommend that much effort. Just leave it alone they say. It's natural to have a foreskin and it actually protects the penis and the bonus is much increased sexual pleasure also. A circumcised penis head is a bit desensitized by constant contact with clothing, etc. An uncircumcised penis is very very sensitive when erect and exposed. It feels more interesting and tittilating to a woman also, but these are only bonus reasons. The main reason is why should we cut off something that we are born with. We don't cut off any other parts of us that may or may not require being cut off later. Check your statistics and you will find that uncircumcised men do not have more infections than others. In fact in 1999, and long over due, the American Pediatric Assc. declared that they no longer recommend routine circumcision. Our fathers were not circumcised. Routine circumcision only came into fashion in the USA after WWII. Now everyone seems so used to it, they don't even think how weird it is. Europeans think it's pretty weird. Read the book, "The unkindest cut of all." Don't do it. You made him perfect, let him stay that way.

I think that infant circumcision is plain wrong. An adult can choose to have it done and I have nothing against that.

Personally, I don't like circumcised penises, they look odd and are not half as much fun to play with. I am disappointed if I come across a man who has been circumcised, I find it a turn off as the foreskin is very erotic.

Hygiene is not an issue, all it takes is for a man to wash himself, it is no less clean than a womans genitals and I don't see anyone advocating removing the labia of all female children so they will be cleaner as adults.

Even *IF* circumcision did prevent STDs such as AIDS (and these studies are hotly contested because of poor methodology) it is still a decision that can be left to the boy once he is old enough to make a meaningful decision. I am not saying he has to be 18 as many engage in sex before that, but a boy of 14-16 is capable of making that decision.

Also circumcision of a post-pubescent penis is less risky. When you circumcise a newborn you have no idea what their adult penis size will be, and the margins for error are very small. On the adult you can easily see how much skin can be removed without effecting the penis. Too little skin can cause painful erections or cause the hairy scrotal skin to be pulled up the shaft when the penis is erect (which is gross. I have seen it). Also sometimes newborns skin grows somewhat unevenly and this results in too much skin being removed on one side causing the penis to bend when erect.

Also a newborn foreskin is attached to the penis in the same way a fingernail is attached to the finger. Just because a newborn does not articulate pain the same way as an adult doesn't mean they feel any less. An adult can also take stronger painkillers in the days after because they are adults.

No, newborn boys should not be circumcised.

God gave them foreskins for a reason... to protect the penis from infections.

All you got to do to clean it is when bathing him wipe it off with warm water, also when changing his diaper make sure you wipe so that you get any excess urine off(probably something you should do anyway even if he was circumcised)

It's not like you have to soak it in warm water for 10 minutes every night

It is a violation of his human rights to be stripped of something he may want later on in life.

It's easy to have it done later on...it is impossible to have it put back on and have the same sensation.

It is a betrayal of trust between the baby and mother. A mother is supposed to protect her baby from pain and do everything she can to prevent something from happening.

plus if you were to see a video of a circumcision you would realize that the way the baby cries is not a normal cry.

sure, worldwide the share of adult males circumcised is barely around 20%. approximately 60-sixty 5% of adult males interior the united states are circumcised. interior the 1970's, the neonatal circumcision fee interior the US replaced into above ninety%, by using fact of this every person you recognize who replaced into born interior the US and over the age of 20 is maximum possibly circumcised. at present (2008), in basic terms 50% of boys are circumcised in hospitals and using severe expenses of immigration (somewhat on the west coast) the share of circumcised adult males has dropped interior the final 25 years. Boys decrease than the age of 5 have a pair of fifty% probability of being circumcised interior the US while in comparison with over ninety% 25 years in the past. i replaced into born interior the US and that i'm no longer circumcised, so I take place to be interior the minority (for my age team).

NO NO NO!
All babies deserve to stay intact, girls and boys!

****************ADOPTIVEMAMA:****************************
Please do not take away the one gift your baby's mother gave him. Genital integrity is every baby's birthright.

How are you caring for his penis? That may very well be the reason for his infections. You only need to wipe the outside, like a finger. You don't retract a foreskin on an infant anymore than you peel back fingernails to clean.
If you prematurely retract an infant in can cause tears that can lead to infections. The foreskin is adhered to the glans so that foreign matter cannot enter the meatus. Prematurely breaking these adhesions is painful and dangerous.

Please PLEASE PLEASE read these on how to care for your intact son:

If this was a baby girl that you were planning on adopting, and she had these health issues, what part of her would you be planning to amputate?

Please look into the function and purpose of the foreskin before you just have it ripped away.

As for passing on infection to his wife. That is sheer nonsense and completely unfounded in any medical sense. Would you have his wife trim her labia if she gave him infections?

A grown man is perfectly capable of using soap and water to clean his WHOLE body. If he wants to cut part off as an adult, let that be HIS CHOICE.

Please don't keep this baby if you do not plan to keep ALL of him.

I don't think so! According to that link, they mentioned Africa...which is widely known for its HIV/ AIDS epidemic, so circumcised or not it's a problem!! And as for being able to contract STD's and HIV easier, what were condoms made for? If the male isn't using a condom, circumcised or not, what does he expect to happen? And for cleanliness, no special cleaning needs to be done until the foreskin start pulling back naturally, and by that age the boy is able to clean himself. With that, if that boy gets an infection from not cleaning himself or his penis well, you can guarantee he'll be sure to clean it properly from then on. I think not circumcising is a great way to ensure adolescent boys take showers daily!!

To add on, my husband who wanted our boy to be circumcised (and later gave into me not wanting to put our child through it), recently changed his newborn nephew's (who is circumcised) diaper. After that he thanked me for being against it and not allowing our son to go through it! He also made a comment about his mom putting him through it, though back then it was very routine and no one really knew differently. I am now glad we see eye to eye on the subject!!

I was going to have it done, then I came across the below web site and now I have changed my mind. My husband is not circumcised and he has been find.

I believe it is a good thing for a newborn boy to be. We are fostering a 7 month old who has been with us since he was 6 days old. He was not circumcised because Birth Mom didn't have the ability to make the decision at the time.

We have struggled with urinary tract infections, and many other types of infections that we are constantly have to get cremes and perscriptions to help the little guy. Also, when he is older and becomes intimate with his wife, he could pass along any infections under the foreskin to his wife and cause problems with conceiving a baby.

We are starting the process to adopt him, and will have him circumcised within a week of finalization.

I think it is up to the parents to circumcise or not. Everybody speaks of the problems of not having it done, but apparently they are the lucky ones who didn't have any problems afterwards. Unfortunately my son did have problems. Just research and weigh the risks.
