Who do you think is the best rock group ever? I would say that when it comes to innovation and starting everyone off, The Beatles without a doubt. But when it come to the playing of instruments and incorporating the voices to create some bad tunes, Led Zeppelin takes the crown. What do you think?

I think it's the Beatles for both. In reference to what you said about instrumentation and voice, think about songs like Tomorrow Never Knows, Strawberry Fields Forever, A Day In The Life, Penny Lane, I Am The Walrus, the list goes on and on. They went really far beyond just guitar, bass, percussion. So far beyond it and they did it brilliantly.
They also had amazing versatility. The did ultra pop songs, they did weird songs like Blue Jay Way, Tomorrow Never Knows, they fuzed styles to bridge it all. They walked so many lines and meshed so many things together. Heck, there is almost a hip-hop element to I Am The Walrus in the flow and vibe of it. They were the whole package more than any band that has followed them and they did it with just such a coolness for lack of a better word.

This, of course is not to take away from Zeppelin. They have their place in a very small pantheon, but it's all about the Beatles.

I think what you are trying to ask is which rock group was the most creative
Without a doubt I agree with you The Beatles ( also because I happen to love the Beatles)
And then Led Zeppelin.
The Beatles happen to be a older group so that's why they would be first

Of which decade?
What about the Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly, The Who,
etc? Everly Brothers?
INXS? from the 80's. Michael Hutchence and Andrew Farriss wrote some great songs!(The Swing)
I disagree with Led Zeppelin taking the "crown".

The Beatles undoubtedly because of the movement they made in the music world, and they continue to out sell most current albums and new release albumns.

Hard question though, because there are so many possible views.

Example: Aerosmith, possibly one of the top 5 rock bands ever. They have continuosly put out great albums with #1 hits on every album decade after decade.

How many other bands do that? Zepplin doesn't, Pink Floyd doesn't, AC/DC doesn't... so maybe it's Aerosmith as the Best Rock Group Ever.

Good luck with your question!

If you really want to learn something about Rock & Roll, start listening to Blues music. Many of the songs these groups recorded were re-done versions of older Blues songs.
You especially might want to listen to any of Robert Johnson's recordings. Led Zeppelin re-did many of his songs into their style (e.g. The Lemon Song).
Robert Johnson influenced:
Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers Band, The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, Peter Gabriel, Neil Young, Warren Zevon ......................and Eric Clapton, who called Johnson "the most important blues musician who ever lived."
