Unless you are taking medication, a glass of wine to celebrate is just fine during pregnancy. If you are taking medication, ask the doc as some of it seriously cannot be combined with alcohol.

If You Are Drinking, Baby Is Too
Some experts say moderate drinking during pregnancy is okay, but there are others who believe taking even one drink is like playing Russian Roulette with your baby's health.
One thing is clear, if you are pregnant and take a drink -- a glass of wine, a beer or a cocktail -- your unborn child takes the same drink. Whatever you eat or drink while pregnant goes directly through your bloodstream into the placenta.
If you're having a drink, baby is too.
For the unborn child, the alcohol interferes with his ability to get enough oxygen and nourishment for normal cell development in the brain and other body organs.
Research has shown that a developing fetus has very little tolerance for alcohol and infants born to mothers who drink during pregnancy can have serious problems.
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is a pattern of mental and physical defects which develops in some unborn babies when the mother drinks "too much" alcohol during pregnancy. The problem is nobody is certain just how much "too much" is.
A baby born with FAS, or even with the lesser Fetal Alcohol Effects (FAE), can have serious handicaps and therefore could require a lifetime of special care. There is even some research that indicates that women who plan to get pregnant should stop drinking before they even conceive.

When I learned of my pregnancy, I was already about six weeks along. By then, I had had two evenings of drinking-- One evening with three beers and another with five or six, which were strong. The thought that I endangered my child, even unknowingly freaked me out for quite awhile. Since, I've even abstained from Holy Communion wine, whether it be the little glass or dipping my bread or wafer into the cup. One week, I accidentally took a cup of wine. It was in towards the middle of the tray, where the cups of grape juice are. (The wine is red, the juice, white.) I think the colored cup rim threw me off. I freaked out for a bit realizing that I consumed alcohol while knowing I'm pregnant.
Why do you want to take the chance that you could harm your child? I would do anything for mine, and if that means no beer or wine for the next year (I plan on breastfeeding), then it will be quite worth it. My child comes first and I will do anything for her.

go w/ one glass, no more than that. you can get something like arbor mist that has a low alcohol content and make yourself a spritzer - 1/4 cup wine to 3/4 cup ginger ale or club soda, serve over ice. Add more ginger ale/club soda and ice as you drink on it if you want to have something to sip on socially.
or, if you don't want to take the chance, just get you a bottle of welch's sparking grape juice and some really fine looking glasses. sip on that just like you were drinking the real thing, but you don't have to worry about the limits! then, after you have the baby, get a sitter and treat yourself to a couple of glasses.

Go ahead and have one drink for your birthday. In other countries in the world, they continue drinking a small amount during their pregnancy, and their babies are just fine. It's really excessive or frequent drinking that poses a real risk. The reason doctors say NO alcohol at all is because they can't guarantee that it won't harm the baby - but there is no proof that a small amount does harm the baby either. It's just a precaution.

A glass of wine is ok. My mother drank Jack Daniels (not recommended) with all 4 of her kids and we turned out fine. One glass will not hurt the baby so go ahead and enjoy yourself.

One glass won't do anything to the baby, but I will bet you will have a hot flash!! i had a 1/2 glass of white wine when I was pregnant with my son and thought I was either going to get naked in the resturant, or burst into flames. Not to mention it makes for the most horrid case of heart burn you have ever had. Burst into flames, spitting flames, I could have been a dragon!!!
Congrats on your Birthday, just think if its worth it.

I was pregnant durning the Christmas and my doctor told me a glass of wine was fine. I had a white wine spritzer. Its a half of glass of white wine with seltzer water.
Don't worry if you have one, but do not over do it because whatever you drink the babies also drinks.

The reason that you shouldn't drink alcohol during pregnancy is that it can cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), and other birth defects. There are a wide range of effects from this disease including physical and mental deformities. I know someone with FAS, he is severely mentally retarded. He will never develop past about 2nd grade level. I personally wouldn't take the chance. Happy Birthday! Have some sparkling grape juice.

The occasional glass of wine here and beer there shouldn't hurt. No alcohol though.
