We all know about baseball and cycling's steriods, the NFL and NBA's players getting into constant trouble, and the NBA's referee scandals. Hockey comes off as one of the only clean sports out there....next to soccer which god knows if they cheat there i really dont pay attention to it

My question is, is there something the NHL SHOULD be watching out for? I mean let's face it when there is a lot of money involved (like in any pro sport) ppl might cheat. I really don't think our referees are THAT bad (usually) and u hardly ever hear about hockey players using illegal drugs or getting into any serious trouble.

So is there anything u can think of that the NHL might be letting slip that could ruin the NHL's reputation? I can't think of anything and doubt that there is. really the only reason the other sports are ruined is bcuz most americans are idiots(this coming from one of them) but idk, is there anything u can think of that may ruin the NHL's reputation?

Hey swing when it comes to drug addictions there are others that can afford it. Remember Kevin Stevens. Yeah the NHL has had it's problems but never really got the attention of other sports because they were just a few people that had problems. Actually it also shows where the NHL is better off not being as big name as the NFL, NBA, and MLB. At least when they have ONE player who is an issue, everyone forgets about it within a year or two. I don't see anything likely to happen to the NHL on the level of destroying the League.

Read How Soccer Explains The World by Franklin Foer, then tell me the sport is without its problems. "Footballers," as they're called, have extreme issues at the ownership and management levels that North American sports fans can only dream of. I'm not trying to slam the sport, just saying it's on a whole different level as far as scandal and problems in pro leagues are concerned.

I agree with most of what's already been said about the NHL and hockey players, but I want to add that the guys have their problems. The difference is, I think, that they're a bit more "normal" than the stuff you hear about other athletes and celebrities. Some guys occasionally drink too much when they're out with friends, the younger ones occasionally get in trouble for being too loud and acting like idiots, and there's a few guys who are jerks, but that's true of people in general. Guys aren't brought up thinking they'll be superstars, and for the most part they come from middle class families, unlike a lot of football and basketball stars who come out of poverty with no clear idea of how to handle suddenly having all the wealth and the power that comes with it, and subsequently go crazy and get themselves in deep trouble. One more reason that this sport is the only one close to my heart.

everyone in the NHL is too poor to have a drug addiction or gamble (except for Wayne Gretzky, Rick Tochett, and anyone making Thomas Vanek money (joke never gets old))

so those are out

and no one in hockey takes steroids because the NHL has a good drug testing system in place. one of the few in any sport that actually works in preventing steroids. none of this,"we're gonna put in a testing program in 2 years so go nutso with drugs now" and no "hey listen, you are gonna be tested in about 3 weeks so stop smoking weed and stay clean for awhile until we test you, then you can start rubbing cream and popping needles"

so right now, i think the only thing the NHL has to worry about is gary Bettman

The NHL doesn't need drugs to ruin its reputation. It has poor management to do that instead. Poor financial strategies, lock outs, a joke of a salary cap, poor officiating, bad marketing, thoughtless expansion, dilution of the talent, oversized equipment.. the game is falling in popularity for a reason. That is pretty sad for a sport that has so many more "good guys" playing it than any other sport.

Remember the Sudafed "Scandal" from six or seven years ago?

The NFL has dog fights, NBA adultery, MLB steroids, and the NHL Sudafed....
