This would be an old question, if this was 1977.

Between the two, I'd say you're wrong. And here's why... while the Best Answer ho's will say what you want to hear, the truth is that the baseline of "Heartbreaker" leads the song, is absolutely recognizeable and clearly, by your post, stands the test of 3 decades and 2 generations of fans. The guitar alongside that baseline, makes it a great great riff -- and that's what Led Zep did, well. Black Dog is more drums/high hat. What make that song, was its speed. Plus, there's instrumentation added through the song & sounds that add to the rhythm and fun of the song -- but, that's not it's riff... that's led by the drums and not the guitar. You're just talking "riffs" here, and between the 2 of choices, it's Heartbreaker hands-down.

Definitely going to go with Black Dog on this one! In fact, most of Zepp's song just has the best guitar riff and melodies I've ever heard!! My ultimate favorite song...Ten Days Gone!

I have to go with Heartbreaker because in addition to the usual air guitar and head banging that the other riffs produce, I get this memphis bluesy knee bending shaky waist action goin' on for that one.

Heartbreaker, but In My Time of Dying is probably my favorite Zeppelin song.

Although I do enjoy both, my favorite riff is either from Trampled Underfoot (talk about distinguished) or Dazed and Confused. Led Zeppelin rocks!!!

Black Dog. You can't go wrong with any Zeppelin riff though.
