Defense Secretary Robert Gates said this today. This culture in the Middle East has been fighting for thousands of years. Did this administration ignore history or is it just plain stupid? Is this another indictment against the Bush presidency?

Yes -- we apparently assumed that they would put aside centuries of conflict and suddenly agree to all live in peace and accept the decisions of someone who (a few years ago) was trying to kill them.
I'd say our govt was naive -- but that's like calling Katrina a bit of a rain storm.

And this surprises you? I have stopped being surprised at the level of stupidity exhibited by our leaders from the White House on down. What amazes me is the fact that the American people aren't screaming for change at the top of their lungs. But it probably would do no good since King George feels he's just that...a king. With Prince Cheney the Dick right beside him.
