I am in a bit of a hurry now and I need help doing these maths problems.

Can you please give me the answers and working out. I know this is wrong but the teacher will only explain this tomorrow to me and she has complety fogot to explain it to me and its for marks .

These are the instructions

Convert the following fractions to decimals using either the equivalent fraction Method and the division method.

So bassically I have got to turn the fractions into decimals.

1.3/8=
2.7/16=
3.33/1000=
4. 5/11=
5. 8/125=
6. 5/6=
7. 16/1000=
8. 7/9=

divide the first number by the second number
e.g. 1. 3/8 = 3 divided by 8 = 0.375

hope this helps!

Well, you've already been given the answers, but hopefully this will help you with equivalent fractions, and how you actually get there:

You need to find an equivalent fraction with a denominator (bottom number) such as 10, 100, or 1000 etc. From there, it's easy to convert eg

2/10 = 0.2
78/100 = 0.78
26/1000 = 0.026

Remember - the first column after the point is tenths, the next is hundredths, then thousandths etc.

Now, you need to convert 4/8, for example, to "something"/10. The thing that will really help you do this is knowing that if you multiply both the numerator and denominator (top and bottom numbers) by the same number, the fraction will be an equal amount...

In this case, 8 x "something" = 10

so "something" = 10/8 = 1.25

so you multiply the top and bottom figures of 4/8 by 1.25 to give 5/10 = 0.5

Have a go with turning 3/8 into "something"/10, and 7/16 into "something else"/100

...

(Do have a go at understanding the method - teacher's are looking to see that ppl understand, aswell as giving the right answers.)

Feel free to e-mail me!

1. 3/8 = 0, remainder 3:
put a decimal point right of the zero, multiply the remainder by 10 and divide again by 8
30/8 = 3, remainder 6
0.3
60/8 = 7, remainder 4
0.37
40/8 = 5
0.375

2. 7/16 = 0(7)
70/16=4(6)
60/16=3(12)
120/16=7(8)
80/16 = 5
0.4375

3. 33/1 = 33
33/10 = 3.3
33/100 = 0.33
33/1000 = 0.033
4. 5/11 = 0(5)
50/11 = 4(6)
60/11 = 5(5)
50/11 = 4(6)
....
0.454545....

5. 8/125 = 0(8)
80/125 = 0(80)
800/125 = 6(50)
500/125=4
0.064

6. 5/6 = 0(5)
50/6 = 8(2)
20/6 = 3(2)
20/6=3(2)
0.83333....
7. 16/1 = 16
16/10 = 1.6
16/100 = 0.16
16/1000 = 0.016

8. 7/9 = 0(7)
70/9 = 7(7)
70/9 = 7(7)
...
0.7777....

9. 8/16 = 1/2 = 5/10 = 0.5

10 17/99 = 0(17) Now, I will multiply by 100 each step
1700/99 = (17*99 + 17)/99 = 17 + 17/99 or 17 with the remainder 17. Repeat this forever, and once you put the point right of the zero add two digits each time:

The division method is simply dividing the upper number by the lower number.

1. 3/8

0.
8/3.0000 8 into 3 doesn't go, so put 0

0.3
8/3.0000 8 into 30 goes 3 remainder 6
6

0.37
8/3.0000 8 into 60 goes 7 remainder 4
6|4

0.375
8/3.0000 8 into 40 goes 5 exactly, therefore the decimal fraction of 3/8 is 0.375.

Just use the same principle to get the rest.
0.4375
2. 16/7.00000
6|12|8

0.033
3. 1000/33.000000
300
0.45454545454......
4. 11/5.00000 This is what is known as a recurring fraction
6|5|6|5|6.....

5. You should be able to do the rest yourself. Good luck! :-)

This is the way my mum does it, confuses the hell out of me but here we go,

7/16 = 16 in to 7.0 (as if its 70)
= 4 + 6 remainder (0.4)
16 into 0.60 (as if 60)
= 3 + 12 remainder (0.43)
16 into 0.012 (as if 120)
= 7 + 8 remainder (0.437)
16 into 0.008 (as if 80)
= 5

so your answer will be 0.4375.

Good luck.

You can do it easily on a pocket calculator and faster than I could type in the answers for you, me also being in a hurry.
Can't your teacher teach or is it that you are not prepared to learn?
