Has she read Narnia before? If not, she will most probably like it. The stories are very simple and have got their own elements of magic and drama. I didn't feel it as captivating as Harry Potter, but the series is really nice overall. The Lord of the Rings is also very good, but the first part is SO BORING that 10 year olds will hardly have the patience to read even 50 pages. Now there are loads of other novels and series that she will like, like Nanacy Drew, the Three Investigators, The Hardy Boys and all.
Oh yes, Eragon and Eldest will be nice picks too.

Like a lot of other people who responded, I'd recommend the Chronicles of Narnia and the Artemis Fowl books. Your niece might also be interested in The Time Quartet novels by Madeline L'Engle:
- A Wrinkle in Time
- A Wind in the Door
- Many Waters
- A Swiftly Tilting Planet.
If she is interested in science fiction, you could try Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card. They're both about children with special abilities who must leave their homes and go to school to save humanity.

she would Love the "Xanth" novels. written by Piers Anthony.
There is 30 books so far and everyone is really good, and fun. They are all around 300 pages long. I'm 28 years old and love them.
great for any age group, and no expletitives, or sex.
even in the books underage people are not allowed to hear or see things underage people are not supposed too.

Good british funny series - Discworld by Terry Pratchett. Its best discribed as mixing J.R.R. Tolken with Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy). A few of his books went to animation and available on DVD, and even has Christopher Lee as the voice of Death!

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, and a short review of each book.
I hope this helps.

There's a good series I read, by David Eddings, called "The Belgariad". The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis is also a very nice series. You'll fall in love with them quickly, I assure you.
