I had mine pierced seven years ago. When it was first done, it didn't hurt. The next day,OMG! The pain was bearable. I would suggest you eat salty foods. Sugary foods burned the crap outta my tongue. Make sure EVERYTIME you eat, drink, or smoke you wash your mouth out with mouthwash. I would recommend the straight, unflavored, nasty Listerine. That will kill any germs. Have fun!

Does it hurt when you bite your tongue? Of course! So, do you think it hurts to have a large needle go through your tongue? Hell yes! I have mine pierced so, yes, I'm speaking from person experience. If you decide to get it done, be careful. Make sure you go to a reputable piercer. Make sure the needles are sterile. And really make sure this person knows what they're doing...the piercing is close to a nerve that runs through your tongue...hitting that nerve can potentially cause facial paralysis. You'll need a larger barbell at first as well...your tongue will most definately swell for about a week or 2. You'll have to retrain yourself how to say certain words/letters and eating for those first few weeks is hell! Long-term effects...enamel wear on your teeth from the barbell.
Hey, I love mine but these are all things I wish someone would have warned me about before I had it done. It's best to be informed!

It hurts a bit, then ...

You WILL talk like thith for a while, you can't really thay any etheth cuth your tongue ith tho thwollen.

You've got to listen to the piercers instructions on how to treat it. If you don't you get infections and lots of problems.

I had a tongue ring for a few years and got rid of it a while ago. After the swelling goes down you could find a shorter bar. If they start with a 1" bar, go to 3/4 or 1/2" bar.

If you are not ready to deal with a swollen tounge for days and not being able to eat a proper meal for days then this piercing is not for you. I did it and the actual piercing part is not too bad its the day after, it sucks real bad and you will want to remove it. Don't do it if you're scared

i dont know...go get a needle stick it through your tounge and you tell me whether that hurts or not...
and yes infections are very common among tounge piercings even if you have a professional do it...and you'll definitely get some swelling through the first week or so
why would you want to get that pierced anyways...its not attractive...trust me

Actually getting it done didn't hurt but after about an hour my tongue started swelling. Even then it was sore but didn't hurt terribly. When it would start to ache too much I would just rest a piece of ice on my tongue or I would swish with Listerine.

well.
there are some horror stories.
but if you want to do it
go somewhere you trust.
maybe somewhere one of your friends has gone to, and everything has turned out okay.

my friend just got hers done and she said the healing hurt a little, but its not that bad.
