Why should my tax dollars go to New Orleans? I've never been there and probably never will. Let Louisiana pay for the rebuilding.

and what would New Orleans possibly look like if we didn't "waste" money in Iraq? maybe a little like Hiroshima or Nagasaki.... look, we still need to help rebuild the gulf region and spend the money to do it... but, we can't neglect what's happening abroad either.... fight against radical islam IIS #1 on my list as it should be for everyone else... think long term my friend. not short term. we have all the time in the world for domestic issues, not so with terrorism.
btw... New Orleans doesn't look as bad now as you imply. have had several people say this that have been there in the last year or so.

Is this one of the talking points for today? I've seen this same question many times. Where do these talking points come from?
Anyway, for those people who may not be familiar with a document called "the US Constitution", it has no provisions at all that allow the federal government to take money from people to rebuild houses of other people.
The people of New Orleans do not have a right or an entitlement to take money I've earned so they can rebuild their houses.
Perhaps they should have worked, saved, and bought flood insurance when they live BELOW sea level. Just a thought.

Well over the years they did get Billions of Dollars to fix the levies, but chose to spend the money on other things...the only part of New Orleans that was worth fixing, has already been fixed...the Garden District and The French QTR...the rest of it they should push off into the Mississippi and let the gators have it...besides the places I mentioned above, New Orleans was trash...a crime filled place that isn't worth saving...New Orleans wasn't the Murder Capital of the South because of all the "nice" people that live there...get drunk and wander off Bourbon St alone and see how long it takes to get mugged...

Many of the residents of New Orleans would have to go through major training in order to learn to respect property. Downtown NO was always nice because it catered to tourism. Get away from the tourist areas and much of it was slummy.
You're right. Had we poured that money into NO it would look just like it did before... In LESS than three years. :)

It would look just as it did before Katrina, run down slum town! Only then we could say we wasted Billions on New Orleans, why did the government give to them and not Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, L.A, New York, Dayton, Albany, Des Moines, Tupelo, San Jose, Casper, Denver, Oakland, (add your town here).

Don't believe everything you read in the newspaper. There was a lot of unemployment and negative cultural patterns of thought. Katrina was probably a blessing in disguise. If forced many people out of their hopeless situation into new vistas. Many have found opportunities elsewhere.

In the words of the Mayor of New Orleans.
"New Orleans is a chocolate town and it is going to stay a chocolate town."
Enough said.

I was there in February and it looked great.
We didn't waste the money in Iraq.It was to back our Troupes there.
I guess in ten years people will still be talking about the wrongs done in New Orleans. They need to look at their Mayor and State officials for that answer.
