While politicians have hacked and sloughed their way through the issue of illegal immigration, one sheriff in Atlanta has taken matters into his own hands by doing what the law already allows law enforcement to do -- begin deportation proceedings against illegal aliens who are charged with crimes.

I was told one time by a politician not to try to introduce "logic" into a possible solution to a problem. At the time I thought it was kind of a funny comment to make, now I think it's The Politician's Mantra. If there is an easy, common sense approach to solving anything they will do one of two things, not use it at all, or amend it so that it is so watered down that it's ineffective. Thanks

That's like asking why don't we do the common sense thing and stop all the criminals -- far easier said than done.

And closing the legal border checkpoints won't have any significant effect on illegal immigration -- it will just prevent the people who are legally allowed to travel from getting to home or work.

its a good idea to close the borders and it has been considered but the pronlem with that is it completely goes against what america stands for at the start of world war 2 european immigrants flocked to america looking for a better lives i don't support illegal immigration but closing the borders is something we can't do

Gee imagine that. The Q is, is any law enforcement agency that doesnt deport criminals that shouldnt be here under a liberal persuasion? What are whos philosophy is keeping us from enforcing the law?

Well, because those that are worried about peoples feelings say thats wrong. Mind you, this is probably a felony we are talking about here but evidently, after 9/11, its ok to let people sneak into your country and not do anything about it.

You would think people would be insanely upset about it, I am. Why aren't most of you saying put a halt to it, now?

Because politicians would not be able to make a profit for themselves off of doing that. Keep in mind that our politicians, both R's and D's, make a lot of money off of their decisions.

People get a lot of money to WRITE laws, not to enforce them. It's a flaw in our society and power/economic structure. I blog about it at spinornospin.blogspot.com
(full disclosure, I'm not paid to blog, but the ad is sponsored).

We need to do more than just ship them back to Mexico, beause they just come right back. There needs to be some kind of punishment to make an example of them.
