I experienced 1st hand a federal disaster--declared as such by our govt. and all this money was allotted/pledged/promised/etc for repairs. Even so, nothing has been done to prevent this from reoccuring. Many "projects" just haven't gotten done and there are those that will never get done as they deal with private property and the bulk of the disaster occured on private property--located by federal property that had something done to it that probably contributed to the private property being destroyed. I get the feeling that this happens quite often. All these monetary figures alloted for aid make the news and govt. reports and no one ever sees a dime because everything happens on private property. What do you think? No advice on getting an attorney please, just tell me what you think.

Contact your state congressman and talk to them about it. You may even be able to set a meeting with them and give them all your details. They should investigate it for you.. good luck.....

Most disasters, especially natural ones, cannot be prevented. A hurricane is usually 150+ miles across and delivers the power of a small nuclear device every minute--we cannot stop that. All anyone can do is clean up afterwards.

Rather than focusing on disaster prevention, make sure that the support system is in place to respond after such an event has taken place.

When the goverment like Washington allocates money to disasters it gets sent to that State and then the state does what it has to do to get it to the people. In the case of Katrina a lot of the money made it to Louisiana but never to the people. However I don't feel sorry for them cause they 'elected' the same goverment back in. The State and local goverements are the biggest crooks in these deals.

First and foremost, prayer. After that, the two party system is flawed. I think change in our society, from a consumption based economy to a more functional economy with power more evenly distributed to individuals instead of groups, would help. I blog about it at spinornospin.blogspot.com (full disclosure, I'm not paid to blog, but the ad is sponsored).

I think that it is a sad state of affairs that, in an emergency situation, money which is allocated for disasters isn't handled promptly enough or aptly enough. Our government has funds for disasters. But there is also paperwork and red tape. Add in the insurance factor, and the wheels turn slowly, indeed!
May God bless you.
