As a Cubs fan, I'd love to tell you that it will last the rest of the season, but am enough of a realist to say that it might just end today. Very often, a race like this will go back and forth for a week or two before one team pulls ahead. I do think that the Cubs will win the division, they just seem to be doing all the little things right - timely hitting, good defense, etc. The only thing that might stand in the way of the Cubs right now is the fact that their bullpen looks a bit overused. Somehow they need to figure out a way to get more 6 and 7 inning games out of their starting pitching.
Bottom line though is that that first place only matters for one day. While it was great to look at the standings this morning and see my beloved Cubs in 1st, it really doesn't mean a thing until the end of the season.

i think they will eventually stay on top they might lose it a couple of times but the brewers are on a down fall with out sheets and hardy playing like crap.

plus with wood possible coming back on friday there bullpen should get better. which i believe is the cubs only proablem (bullpen) they have horable relief

but also remeber the cubs did take first place due to a wild picth and if it wasent for that i think the cubs bullpen would have runied it

I AM A HUGE CUBS FAN dont get me wrong i just speak the what i believe is true

To all these people who say it will last a few days or a week, how do you explain the way this team has been playing for the last two months plus? It's not a fluke. The Cubs are the team to beat in the NL Central, and can definitely compete with the elite teams in the NL.

This is not a typical Cubs team of the past that folds in the stretch or just not good enough to get to the playoffs. This is a solid team that has a legitimate shot this year. It would help if they could have come up with a pitcher but they need to be taken seriously.

Right up until they start getting used to it. And I really have no favorite team in the Central -- I work with a hard-core Cubs fan and a hard-core Cardinals fan, and the Cardinals fan is the least obnoxious of the two. Don't get me wrong, they're both cool, but why do you suppose that might be? ;)

I am so happy for the Cubbies as they are a team that I root for outside of my Red Sox. I knew Lou would get them right. Watch out for these guys. They are getting hot at the right time of year. When a team gets this hot in August it usually catapults them into the postseason and sets them up to possibly stay hot and win it all. EX: Red Sox, Tigers, White Sox, Cardinals...etc...Good luck Cubbies. I hope we meet in the world series! I would never mind losing to you if it happened, because you have suffered like my Sox.

I am NOT a Cubs fan, but I do believe with the improvements they made over the winter, they are now playing great baseball and will win their division by 5 games at least.

Chow!!

It will not last long the brewers are gonna come back and kick the cubs buts. The brewers are gonna win it all.

In that division it should be the rest of the year and with their team it should have been the entire year. They are actually a better team now than the Brewers but if the Brewers do not have a fire sale to save on salaries they should be a good team for a few years.

I hope they stay there. The Cubs pitching staff are on my fantasy team, and I am counting on them to win.
