if it is an upper 12 year molar, they may recommend it taken out, since often the third molar may drop into that spot. However, I generally think they would prefer to forcefully erupt it (i think that's what I would do if it was my child). Without seeing radiographs and the complete history, I can't really answer the core of your question. Lower molars would generally follow the latter advice. I would see your general dentist first with the question and ask for their advice. If you want a second opinion that is always an option too. Take care.
