I used to have the same problem when i was younger, i used to lie all the time, and i ended up compounding the lies because one lie led to the next and so on...
If you have a compulsive lier on your hands, all you need to do is let them be. Sooner or later it WILL come back to bite them in the a**. As for getting others in trouble, if you are a truthful person, you will be Ok.
Lastly, yes just get away from her. Once she realizes that lying is only going to alienate her from her friends she will get into the habit of telling the truth.
This is from personal experience, the only way to help a chronic lier is with tough love. There is no other way, other than by getting them to talk to a psychiatrist about why they lie all the time.
Also, confronting a lier will just make them lie more.

Don't leave her alone. Its a psychological problem and she needs help.
People who lie constantly, in fact, they are hungry of attention. They find it an easy way to get attention so they do so.
You better give her a psychological treatment and make her realised, in a polite and friendly way, that this habit can't help her at all and it is effecting her personality very badly. Point her out what the abilities she has and convince her to develop these so she can get attention of others in a positive way. It will be more effective if you ask your mutual friends to join you in it.

I think that it would be better to just stay away from this person, since she is only going to cause you problems if you hang around her.
People that tell lies are not good to be around, eventually others may start to associate you with her and they may think that your just like her. It could ruin your own reputation.
Best of luck to you.

You be the honest one and tell her that the lies have to stop or you can't deal with being her friend.

Chronic lying is sometimes a sign of childhood abuse, but sadly the best thing you can do is stay away from her.

I either let them continue to lie, knowing how stupid they really are, or I call them on it. My brother and sister lie so much about everything and they are so stupid as to think we all believe it. It just goes to show how truly pathetic some people really are.

Once you figure out the person is constantly lying, stop contact with them. Simple.

don't totally believe them till you confirm it yourself because lies can be compounded with more lies on top of lies.
