What was the reason they gave you, and what do you think was the real reason? I was told i was rude on the phone (!), but I think my boss just didn't like the fact that i wasn't good at socializing.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN FIRED, BUT I AM AND HAVE BEEN A BOSS. I'VE ALSO BEEN AROUND ALOT OF BOSSES. IT IS COMMON TO HAVE AN EMPLOYER USE A LAGIT REASON TO FIRE SOMEONE FOR OTHER UNDESIRABLE REASONS.

I was fired for the first time ever June 26 2007. The position was brokering Liquor Licenses in California. I told them in the interview that im not a telemarketer and dont want to be one. They told me that this is a sales position, but you do need to spend some time on the phone.

They wanted us to make 50 calls per day. No prob. We needed to buy 4 liquor licenses from existing businesses in San Diego County (very hard license to get). At the end of the week, i was 40 calls behind the other salesman. I bought 3 licenses in San Diego County (yes, i had to do some talking) and the other guy bought none.

They told me "You are unfit for telemarketing. This aint your cup of tea. Here is your last check, can we still be friends?"

They really fired me (i feel) because i wasnt a push over and they didnt want to pay me for my scheduled vacation.

Yes, 3x.
1. I was partying at the job (7-11) - deserved it
2. I also was told that I wasn't friendly on the phone (untrue, I wasn't "pretty" enuf, it was a temp job and all the girls there were 'hoochies' and I was chubby and wore frumpy clothes) - they fired me within the first hour... I can image, they were like, 'oh hell no!!!'.
3. Didn't pass my 90 day review at a law firm, it was my first "real" job and I was so nervous I was ALWAYS making mistakes... so it was justified... but they fired me on a Monday, but paid me for the whole rest of the week.

Don't let it get you down. That all happened in the beginning of my job/career... all that stuff stops when you're older.

yes I did, a couple of times. sometimes they fired me to get a cheaper foreigner and sometimes because I didnt care much about the job since they didnt pay me well. most of the times I was leaving. I don't like bosses, I am happy now to work alone or as associate.

there are many reasons for a boss to fire you. often it has nothing to do with you.

Yes. A group of about 6 of us got fired for stealing from the place we were working at. I was actually covering for the thieves and got caught out. We were a bunch of idiot 16-17 year olds. Thankfully I'm older and wiser now!

Nope over 33 years on this job... and I do get a bit 'testy' about things if I don't like what I see or hear, even from management. But you have to know your place and your limits. Office politics takes a while to learn and many years to master.....
People often get fired due to complete misunderstandings between themselves and the boss. Sometimes you don't get your chance to explain yourself.....

I haven't been fired, but was told that I had to work more overtime or I would be let go. So I quit. I was already working 1-5 hours of overtime a week and they wanted a lot more.

Yeah, I got fired for poor attendance which was pretty accurate. I started to get really bored with the job and therefore became careless, which eventually led to my termination.

Yes, because they asked me to do something. I did it, or tried to and the girl told me I did not need her help.
I think that they fired me because I put in my 2wk notice and did not want to keep me on for those 2 weeks.
I even gave them a card as to how much I was going to miss working with them! Imagine that!
The girl told them that she told me that she did not need my help!
That still angers me today! It was unjustified and uncalled for!
