I totally agree 110%! It's absolutely disgusting to see things like that! Personally, I'm at work so I could only imagine if one of my nosey co-workers came up at the wrong moment! Some people are just so freakin' inconsiderate and immature! "Ooh, look at me! I have something completely inappropriate on my avatar! Let me show it off and make people mad because I have no life at all!" WTFE, ya know what I mean?

The problem with a ban of real photos as avatars (I'm assuming U meant the sexy, lewd & crude ones) is that there has to be a human element in the process to judge whether it meets community standards. Same goes with some cartoons as well, so you can't automatically allow them without some kind of appraisal process.
The question would remain then of who would judge?
A Yahoo! staffer
A minister
A teenager
the entire Y!A forum
A group of selected peers on Y!A
Maybe we could bring it to a group vote, and find out what can be done?

I totally agree on banning those nude and disgusting pictures but pictures that doesn't inflict any harm should not be banned but I think the Yahoo Answers staff should find that pretty difficult to solve. I suggest you put that here:http://suggestions.yahoo.com/?prop=answers
Putting a report abuse near the avatar isn't going to do any good either.

I was just discussing this with my wife. Yes they should, not only because there are kids on here, but these things are offensive to a lot of adults. It is ridiculous for people to put pornographic pics on here. If only the cartoon avatars were allowed, it would solve that whole problem. Then, it would be nice to find a way to permaband these people.

I guess it is one of those cases of a few people ruining it for everyone because I used to enjoy seeing the real pictures. You are correct though, there are some that are disgusting. There was one so gross that I didn't even know what it was until I read the name. LOL

some of the answers are a little risque at times but I think people should be a little more considerate when using those types of pics as their choice of avatar.

I do agree.I'm basically 12 years old and I see people doing that all the time.It's really disturbing! They should change this rule and make it a clean place.Your supposed to be 13 years old to join here,but I thought,how does 12 make a lot of difference?
It's just one year..Well I think they should and you can also suggest this on the yahoo suggestion board and make a suggestion..

Its too bad that people abuse the pictures, but I think we should keep them, because all male cartoon avatars look like queers, and I would have to go back to having no picture, because I don't want a gay avatar.
