He was laying on a foot high retaining wall after school listening to his ipod. Three guys came by and stole it off his chest! He reported it to the school and police, and we also supplied the serial number, just in case it's found.They even have a recording of the guys running away! It was locked with a password, is there a way they could unlock it and use it? Or would they have just thrown it away? Is there anything else I should do?

You probably won't get it back. And unfortunately if they put it in a computer they may be able to use it because ususually if you reset an iPod and put it in a computer the lock code has been cleared. It may delete the songs on it but they can still use it.

Sorry to say but your probably not gonna get it back. They might be able to unlock it. Most kids would sell it because they can get good money for an Ipod. They probably wont of thrown it away, they would find a way of unlocking. You will just have to wait and see if the police catch the people.

Sorry, but I seriously doubt that you will be able to get your son's ipod back. Even if they catch the kids who stole it, they probably have sold it to someone or thrown it away. In fact, last night on Dateline NBC, they did a report on stolen ipod, and the percentage that got them back was like 3% or something. I hope you're part of that 3%, but I don't think so.

oh yeahd dude, you can definately hack those ipods and break any code thats put on it. anyways chances are they sold it to a pawn shop or else to another kid by now.
i had mine stolen from me in gym, and i thought i knew who took it but i was wrong. and i never saw it again. i reported it to our detective at our school and i never heard anything about it again.
so dont get your hopes up on ever seeing it again. the best thing you can do is buy your kid another one and not let him take it to school or something to make sure it doesnt get stolen.

It is possible. Even if the three guys are caught, and they did lose it or it is gone, you can sue them for enough cash and even extra$$$ for for stress. Best to ask an attornys office or even judge judy! crazy i know but if the guys are ID'ed you can get the $$$ back
