Papelbon

Gagne will be the right-hand set-up man, and close on days Papelbon can't pitch

Both...Paps will be the main closer with Gagne coming on as a set-up man with Oki...but since the Red Sox don't want to overwork Papelbon Gagne will definitely be getting some save opportunities.

Gagne might get a spot chance to close but will only be the full time closer if Papplebon has health issues. Although I have not heard or read anything I believe Red Sox management has on going concerns about Papplebon, and his health, and Gagne, who has issues of his own, was brought in as insurance.

I think Papelbon will remain the closer while Gagne will sub in when Papelbon needs a night off. Gagne could also be used in cases where Papelbon is about to blow a save and he could come in either to save or make sure the game goes into extra innings.

It's Papelbon's job to lose. Gagne is depth and injury insurance; great move by the Sox. If Rivera goes down, who will the Yankees have? At least Proctor isn't there to blow leads. Boston has the best and deepest last two innings pitching of any club.

It'll have to be Papelbon, because Gagne is going to get hurt again. Suckered again, Sox fans! The Yankees are winning the Division, the Pennant, the World Series, everything. The only way you're going to see the Playoffs is if you paid your cable bill and your TV works.

Did anybody watch the Orioles-Red Sox game last night? Papelbon closed and will be the closer regardless. Gagne is there as a possible closer as if Papelbon needs a day off or if Okajima gets lit up. Who liked Tejeda's home run off Okajima last night ?

Papelbon. Gagne said that he wants to help win a championship, even if he can't be the closer.

The Sox signed Gagne for the purpose of closer. Papelbon is going to be moved to setup man shortly, if not right away.

Papelbon, no doubt about that. Only way Gagne will close is if Papelbon has closed a couple games and the sox want him to rest. Or (knock on wood) if he gets hurt.

Papelbon of course. What kind of question is that? Gagne will spot save but the job is Pap's!
