Your husband is more than likely the insecure one. When he
sees you looking better it makes him feel even more insecure
because he truly does wonder what a girl like you is doing with a guy like him. He's also afraid that if he compliments you
too often you will think your better than him and may leave him.He does appreciate your looks he just doesn't know how
to deal with his feelings.

You have taken your first step towards becoming the focal point of your husband's life. Yep, your husband was definitely taking you for granted and not showing you his appreciation of you nor the respect you deserve.
You seem like a smart woman. Now that you have learned one way to get his attention, think of others. Dress up a little sexy while he's home and then tell him you're going shopping. If he asks about what you're wearing, just tell him you like to look nice. For your guy, a little bit of jealousy can be a very good thing for you. Play your cards right, act confident and you'll have him wrapped around your finger in no time at all.

It sounds like to me that he does think you look good, he just doesn't like getting what he probably views as "mushy" or something and expressing it. He does it around his friends/other guys that check you out so he can show that you are his good lookin' wife and they need to back off. That is how my husband is most of the time too. At home every once in a while I'll get a "you look nice", but in public if he notices other men looking at me he is all over me and acting like I'm hot stuff. I asked him why he was like that and he told me it was so other men would know I was taken.

Maybe he feels you know he comes home to you and feels you aren't in need of a compliment. When other men are around he feels competition and wants you to know he knows you are coming home with him. Maybe you are a little more insecure of your marriage than he is. Do you tell him how good looking he is all the time, because that is what it sounds like you want from him.

I wish I had an answer to your question, but honestly I don't understand men. I was married to a man who seldom praised my natural beauty and youth (he was 20yrs. my senior) -- not even when his friends would make comments like: "Wow! What did you do to get such a beautiful women to marry you"
He would ignore them and change the conversation.
His best (Childhood) friend and neighbor had an eye on me. When we separated, even before filing for divorce, he went looking for me and asked me out -- He claimed he did it with my (at the time) husband's blessing!
So, all I'm saying is -- men are weird!!

He behaves this way for the same reason he didn't pay any attention to a toy of his, as a child, until his brother wanted to play with it, and he snatched it away from him, beginning to play with it himself, having developed a new feeling of worth toward it. Behavioral studies conducted in bars have shown that an average looking man will attract hot, sexy women if he is already in the company of an attractive companion-again, a case of "I want to play with THAT toy!!...the one I can't have!!"

Stop your nit-picking and see the bright side. He could have said nothing at all like the old days...Men claim us when others take note because it is like a lion pissing on a tree to claim his territority...Be flattered...he is complimenting you indirectly in doing so at the same time he is pissing on all oncoming suiters. Keep yourself up girl, it helps them to remember that you can get the attention of others but you chose them instead. Good for you.

Some people (not just men) need group approval before they value anything.

Men are morons, and that's that. It's only unless someone else notices what they have that they realize that they have it, and when they realize that, they become all possessive. It's like when one kid sees a toy his/her sister is playing with, and says that it's his/hers and that no one else can play with it -- even though he/she had forgotten its existance. Things look much better if someone else wants them.
