Honestly....while I applaude the fact that the old lady finished...whats the point...isnt it just a waste of money to finish at 94? I mean is she really going to use the degree or just sit at home and look at it? I dont mean to sound hatefull or rude, but i am just curious!

Yes, I understand its an accomplishment...but seriously....is it that huge of a deal when you are 94 and gonna die w/ in about 10yrs...can she use her degree to the fullest? I am a 23 yr old and i have 3yrs of college under my belt and right now i have taken off a yr and half and it will be a full 2yrs before i go back to school (had a baby) and i will earn my degree as a non traditional student...so i understand that part...by why wait until you are 94...and not 49? Thats what i dont understand~!

Sometimes, as we age, we look back on things we didn't finish and say "damn, I wish I had finished that" and so we go ahead and get it done. Education is one of those things that many of us later go back to finish for no reason other than we never got it done.

Education serves far more purpose than simply finding a good job. In fact, a degree alone won't get you a good job.

Consider too - staying involved in formal education keeps your brain sharp. At 94, I'm betting she can use all the help she can get in keeping that brain exercised.

I hope I never loose my desire to learn!

It has been said that you can waste your education, but an education, no matter what you do with it, is never a waste of time or money!

It's not about what she can "do" with the degree. it was about her desire to learn and to accomplish personal goals!

Success, satisfaction, and personal accomplishments aren't always measured in dollars and cents!

So what? Once you reach a certain age you aren't supposed to have dreams or goals?

What age are you just supposed to shut down and wait for death?!

I hope I'm just as interested and active in life as she is if I manage to make it to her age! I will NOT simply give up, lay down and die!

I would much rather see myself taking classes at 90 then just sitting around!

I know TONS of younger people who wasted their money on school -- they never used their degrees or they ended up in dead-end jobs! Yes, as the first answerer said here, it's the sense of accomplishment. Funny how so many young people these days don't understand achievement. Ah, public school.

I reckon it just gave her something to do. Senior citizens live longer if they keep busy with something...like planting a garden or going to school.

And, it made her popular all over America, so, that is a plus of finishing school at 94...

To be brutally honest, what's the point of anything?

Lots of younger people who finish school in the "normal" timeframe don't use their degree.

Good for her. Better than gambling it away or drinking it away. It's her money and she should spend it any way she wants to.

I also know lots of students in college who waste time/money by not paying attention and flunking classes over and over again.

sense of accomplishment..not everything is about money..

Keeping an active mind is like excersising..

.I grew up with a good friend (10 years older) who I used to admire when I was younger (in my teens) as he was intelligent , read a lot, and kept informed..

He hooked up with a piece of trash girlfriend and basically just hung out and stopped educating himself , while I continued going to school and taking classes..I continue taking courses at 44 ( I like learning new things-it makes life less boring).

He would make fun of me asking me why I would continue going to school, and yet in his 50's he actually has trouble reading simple news articles and asks me to help him fill out applications..

Your mind like your butt can turn to mush..if you don;t use it, you will lose it..

over 62 i think you can attend for free. i think...otherwise maybe she had the money

In any event, its the sense of accomplishment

PS: Life happens, and maybe she was unable to attend before, or finish. It kept her brain active, did her well, and I say well done.
