Entirely depends upon which place in India you tend to visit. India is a big country and the weather varies. Traveling in the period from April to June is a strict no-no. Summer is terrible in almost all parts of India except extreme north and east!

Best period to visit would be Sep-Dec

Summer's in peninsular India range from unpleasantly hot and humid to unbearably hot and scorching. Strictly avoidable.

The monsoons are natures glorious delight but the problem then is of infrastructure breakdown i.e. floods, potholed roads, landslides, delayed trains and flights etc. You could try end September though the monsoon damaged roads wont be patched up by then.

From October to February is really the best. Post monsoon, everything is green, flowers come into bloom, the festival seasons are in full swing.

In North and Central India it is crisp to cold - perfect weather to enjoy the splendid spicy culinary delicacies. In coastal East, West and South India, the temperatures become pleasant with a coolness in the mornings and evenings.

Hill stations are always a delight, misty, cold and bracingly fresh air.

Whenever you do visit, I wish you a most enjoyable trip.
