I usually play with it between 78 and 81. I found out the house I'm living right now has much better Isolation than the apartment I lived before, Can you believe I got to pay $340 and $350 dlls electricity bills 2 months in a row?

If its very hot outside--78 is cool enough. Your bill will be higher even if you set it at 76. When you are used to high outdoor temperatures its actually healthier not to set it too low.

Try setting it at 75 BUT do 2other things as well. Our HVAC guy tells us that you should not use those high density filters because that restricts the airflow and the temperature of the house fluctuates more as a result. As well, the fan should be left to ON 24/7. This keeps the air moving and when your a/c compressor shuts down the cold air in the system gets moved into the house. We have been doing this for a few weeks and it does seem to help with the temp. After a few days you may want to move the temp up or down a degree to your liking.

We live in Oklahoma a similar climate to yours and it is working.

I set mine quite high, usually 82 degrees. On really hot days I lower it to 80 ..... I open my windows during the night and turn on the house fan to draw in the cooler night air then close them back up during the day, keep my blinds and curtains closed to keep the heat of the day out . this has worked well for me and my utility bill if you can stand it . hope this helps

The temperature setting for the air-con has nothing to do with the outside temperature - you set it to your own comfort level. However, the lower you set it, the more electricity you use and the more wear on the unit itself. I lived in the Philippines for four years, gradually getting used to the heat (but never completely), and I set my bedroom air-con to 25C/77F for daytime naps, and 24C/75F for sleeping, and I found that was quite comfortable.
