I once worked in a factory. This was the most boring work I ever did (trust me on this). Then I found out that people worked there for 20+ years. Even the ones that were intelligent enough to find something else. Why the hell do they do that for such a long time?

Could be any number of reasons... some of the more common:

1. They are comfortable and can't be bothered to look for something better.
2. Looking for a new job is risky, they'd rather live with the devil they know than take a chance with the one they don't.
3. They don't believe they are worth any better (this is common among celebrities or lottery winners who become completely unhinged when they hit it big).
4. What you find boring, they find fulfilling.
5. They like the people they work with.
6. They have a family and community ties they don't want to uproot.

This was posted 7 years ago so your about 21-22 now. The laws have obviously changed since then and I'm turning 15 in a few months and a few of my friends have jobs but I don't know how I go about getting a job today. I would really appreciate if someone could give an up to date list of jobs and how to get a job create a CV etc. Thanks in advance to anyone whose kind enough to help :)

I agree with many of the prior answers. People like security. They are often willing to remain in a bad situation because they fear that stepping into the unknown could be worse.

I'd like to add a complicating factor though. Why should people fear being temporarily unemployed? The answer to this is that so many people unnecessarily stretch their standard of living. They can not bear to be unemployed beyond any short period of time because they will have to lower their standard of living.

I think that people who have more savings are better able to try new things and take chances.

The unknown is frightening. A sure paycheck is easier than taking the chance of finding a new job that may be worse. It is the same reason people stay in a bad marriage, it is safer than stepping out on your own.

Some people have strong work ethics of loyalty to the company and that loyalty eventually resembles a partnership like a marriage.

Security and the paycheck.
I'm with you though, why torture yourself.
I find my line of work to be not unlike a taste of hell, therefore I'm going back to school.
Life is not worth wasting.

Security, plain and simple. Wish I had that boring job right now, as I'm soon to be evicted for lack of rent.
