sorry, it's a 1971 yamaha rt1 360. the engine is already running off of a black wire coming from the magneto. Then there are the day/night time charging circuits, as well as a wire for headlight main circuit and headlight sub circuit. I know the head light runs off of the 2 headlight circuits, but not sure about the charging circuits. I only plan on running this bike through the coil (no battery).
I have ordered the owners manual, but I don't want to sit on my thumbs waiting for it..
the diagram can be found at: http://www.slimduck.com/rt1360_wiring.htm

thanks for any help!

if you've got an older Harley with a magneto you don't need a battery you can run the night wire to your headlight switch the mag will power your lights. just remember to turn your light switch off before you try to start it or you will do a lot of kicking. don't know about other makes but with a day & night wire its probably similar, the day wire will run the engine the night will run your lights & with a diode in the circut charge your battery.

To keep from blowing light bulbs you will need to install a battery and the silicon rectifier. The engine should run fine with black wire hooked to the coil.Make sure to have a kill switch in case of full throttle.

why do no longer you merely purchase an easy battery charger at a automobile boot sale for some kilos. I surely have a battery charger that works on 6v or 12 volts and rates for a automobile or motor cycle. I have been given it for £2 at a automobile boot. If a charger rates too extreme placed some thing in sequence, between th connection and the battery to decrease it down slightly. To be completely trouble-free, the spark between the relationship and the battery will point out no remember if it is charging too extreme

Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.
Never heard of day&night lighting coil.
