I'm asking because I was caught in one while mowing my lawn. I finished some of it in the pouring rain.

Well, the last bit I mowed , surprisingly my Quad system mower deck mowed it perfectly with little chunks left to see.

Rain wont kill you, but lightening can! Besides, it's not good for the mower, the blades will get all gunked up.

Being out in the open or under a tree during a thunderstorm is extremely dangerous! Lightning strikes can occur 10 miles away from the storm.....so it doesn't have to be raining.

Just a few years ago a fellow in Vail was riding his bicycle in perfectly sunny weather, but there was a storm on the other side of the mountain. The lightning came from that storm and struck him. Dead.

Also the ground is wet and electricity will travel through the water layer to you....the lightning could hit many yards away and you'd still get zapped.

Finally a young man mowing his lawn listening to his iPod got zapped when the lightning hit a nearby tree and jumped to his iPod wires.

Riding or pushing that big chuck of metal will make you a slightly more attractive target for lightning. Your mower will likely not work as well and you are at increased risk of you or your ride-on losing traction on a hill which might not be pretty.

I wouldn't mow in a thunderstorm because of the threat of lightning. if is just raining all it will do is bog your mower down.

It is perfectly safe to mow in a storm. I think it is also safe to run with scissors, break mirrors, and make toast in the bathtub.

If you are using a ride on mower or a lawn tractor that has a hydrostatic transmission, it is very dangerous.

If you were out in a big flat area, then its dangerous-lightning strikes the highest object. If you were surrounded by houses and other taller things you were probably fairly safe.

Could be very dangerous espically if there is thunder/lighting. Lawnmowers have metal on them and we know that is a no-no with lightning!
