I was opposed to the invasion from start. I said, 'not in my name'. I do not accept being included in the "us". I don't support Bush now, I never will, I think Bush/Cheney are traitors. The war is doing GREAT harm to the US. I think the ONLY patriotic position is to vehemently oppose the war, calling for withdrawal as fast as is physically possible.

I'm just as angry with the Dems....they have supported the war right along with the Republicans. I hear lotsa talk about ending the war, but no real action and no success.

saying if you're not part of the "us", "you know what you can" implies we should once the war started we support Bush Cheney regardless of their actions and regardless of what is right when they are wrong. That's just mindless stupidity.

I am not willing to be part of an "us" with Bush/Cheney at any time about anything ever. I am a patriot, they are traitors.

John S, maybe it ought to be you who moves...to Saudi Arabia where going along with the government is the ONLY option. Nobody's allowed to have an opposing view....you're either part of "us" or you're dead.

Staveros, the war is about oil, not freedom. People in Iraq are not dying to protect us, they are dying for oil.

A lot of people believe that supporting the president is more patriotic than supporting the whole of the country. A lot of people also believe that the only way to support the troops is to never question what the troops are being asked to do.

Me, I see that belief system as a holdover from the days when kings ruled by divine right. I think the patriot American questions everything. I strongly support our troops, and I'm against the war in Iraq.

I sympathize with your desire to have a child but this is a Bad, bad BAD idea! Legally: Not only can your friend get fired if caught, in most places this is a felony. And you are an accessory. Unless you want to have a baby in jail, forget it. Biologically: There is a reason in vitro fertilization is a low yield proposition: The conditions do not favor impregnation. That is why it usually takes a number of attempts. Let's face it - the "usual" way of fertilization usually takes a several attempts (on average). Ethically: People who donate sperm do so under very strict conditions and under the assurance that their genetic material will be used appropriately. They have a right to have that expectation fulfilled. And what would you tell your child? That they were the product of a crime? Please reconsider.

So correct it wasn't just the politicians there were a lot of Americans who supposed the Iraq war, However don't forget we went into Iraq to look for weapons of mass destruction. We went. Found none. Yet were are still there. So even people who supported going into Iraq are now opposed too it. The mission was to look for WMD. That's been done.
Before withdrawing from Iraq, I would like to hear what General Powell has to say on the matter. He was correct about no going into the country. His assessment on what to do now should also be taken into consideration. Unfortunely, I haven't heard a word on the subject from him. Because pulling out might be more dangerous to us then not at this point.
Honeslty wish, I wish General Powell was running for office.

You need to live in Siberia in a mud hut if you don't feel that the things that effect our country most likely will occur outside of our country. Iraq is one part of the total war on terror. You must be opposed to that as well since you are against Iraq. The only thing that is a great harm to the U.S. is the left wing kooks that daily dump the bad news of this country on a daily basis. The truth is that we have had this war waged against us since Jimmy Carter was in office. George Bush has decided to take this war back to the people who waged it. The spineless leaders we have had in the past did not want the bad poles made by such a decision. George Bush does what he thinks is best in protecting us and does not care short term poles show against it. He is protecting our future. That is more than I can say for a lot of other Presidential candidates.

What is this "us" thing about paying taxes? I was against taxes from the start. I said 'not in my name'.

Please note I am being sarcastic. This is government "of the people, by the people and for the people". No one said that you would like everything that the government does.

I personally disagree with your analysis of the situation but I am glad that you put your positions forward. That is how a representative democracy works. If enough people agree with you, you can elect representatives who, presumably, will vote for your issues. It is unfortunate for you that enough people have not elected enough representatives who will vote for such an agenda. I for example, can't get enough representatives together to vote for a revised tax code. It's still my government. I am still part of "us".

When you decide that you are no longer part of "us" you forfeit the protections and privileges that come along with being one of "us".

I am sure that, no matter who is elected President in 2008, I will have significant differences of opinion with the directions taken or not taken by the government in the future as I have in the past. It is still MY government and I am still an American first. I may not support an issue and I might "vehemently oppose" a direction, but I will not disown my country.

I wish more people in this forum would slow down the rhetoric and remember that we ARE in this together and calling each other names designed to get a rise out of people doesn't do anything to move us forward. Please note that this is a general rant and not directed towards only this question or just this point of view. I see plenty on both sides of the aisle in here that is just sad and sickening.

Nice to see there are some people here who still think along the same wavelength I do.

"If you don't support the war, you don't support the troops. If you don't support the war, you're being unpatriotic and should move to Canada."

People here tend to believe the opposite but I love my country. I can prove it just as much by speaking out against the war as the neocons think I have to prove it by fighting in the war.

My life is worth a lot more than Bush and Cheney's dream to inherit the entire Middle East.

It would be very dangerous to pick up and run.It would say to al-Qaida we give up and empower them .

By the way Clinton had the opportunity to avoid all of this(after the USS Cole, and the Marine barracks bombing)including 9/11 but was afraid to pull the trigger.

This is why we're in Iraq...

This is a statement, not a question. You have the right to speak out against the war, but you also have the right to remain ignorant as to why we are there. Many have served (myself included) and died to protect your right to dissagree and protest. No one can force you to understand what is actually happening and why we are there, but there are millions of muslims out there that will gladly force you to believe as they do and will gladly kill you, if you don't go along with them or serve them. Your welcome!

edit - Oil is only a small part of it. If it were truly about oil, we would have taken over the oil fields and used them for our supply. Iraq is still in control of their oil fields. To deny this war is not about protecting us, is being ignorant. You are listening to too much Air America and the left wing. They make up these stories and you believe them without question. You can question our government, but you do not question where you are getting your opinion from. Question and research everything. If you put aside your bias, you will discover the reality of the situation the world is in with the muslim extremists. Listen to the people that live it. Listen to the people that are there. Listen to the soldiers coming back. Take a serious look at the karan and what it says. Look at what the extremists are saying and try to deny why we are there.

Do you think the terrorists that flew into the Trade Towers checked to see if there were just Repubs inside first?
Or do you think the terrorists let Dems/Libs off the planes before they took them over?
No! Terrorists don't care which party you vote for, who you support in the last elecetion, they want to kill Americans....pure and simple.
So you better get used to it, WE are all in this together!
