I have a doctor's appointment on monday. I don't have an ultrasound scheduled. I believe they are planning to do one at the end of August. Do you think if I talk to my doctor on Monday about having an ultrasound then to see if we can tell the sex that he would do it?

great answers... We will be happy with eitehr a boy or a girl, the room and everything is painted neutral so that is not a concern. My best friend is going in for an ultrasound on Monday and they will hopefully be able to tell the sex. It would just be really cool if we found out at the same time.

Usually a big ultrasound is done between 18 and 20 weeks to make sure everything is fine with the baby. This is when they tell you the sex too. Your doc will probably discuss this with you at your next appt and schedule you for your big ultrasound. But, yes, between 18 and 20 weeks is the best time to tell the sex. I don't think he will give you an ultrasound just to find out. He will schedule you for your big ultrasound though. Good luck!

The doctor should be able to tell the sex at 18 weeks if baby cooperates. If they are already planning an ultrasound for later this month, I'd wait. It's only a few more weeks!

I had an ultrasound at 18 weeks and we couldn't tell. They did another at 20 weeks to get some additional readings (the sex wasn't the only thing they couldn't see) and we saw right away that it's a boy.

As tough as it is, I recommend being patient and waiting for the end of August. By 22 weeks you will have better chances of being able to tell.

For what it's worth tho, with my first son they couldn't tell at all, through any sonogram I had. Sometimes the baby just doesn't cooperate! Good luck!

they usually don't do an ultrasound just to determine sex. insurance needs a better reason. By the end of the month you should be able to tell the sex. That is the best time to check when baby isn't all scrunched up in there. Have you had an ultrasound yet? If not your doc will surely be ordering one soon. best of luck mommy to be! let us know when you find out. my prayers go out for a happy healthy baby and momma.

Some will, most won't.

They don't want trouble if they're wrong and you've painted everything the wrong colour.

Also, it's a sad fact that not all cultures appreciate female babies as they should. Telling patients the gender of their babies stopped almost totally when it was discovered pregnancies were being terminated based on gender.

You can tell the sex of it at 18 weeks if the baby's leggs are open, thats when I found out I was having a boy but my doctor does an ultra sound everytime I go in. (He is awesome)

Unfortunetally your doctor may not agree to it since it is a higher chance of seeing the sex at 28 weeks.

If you have good insurance, sure he will, if not, probobly not.

Usually their able to tell the sex between 16-22 weeks. So I would say they should be able to tell provided the baby lets you ;)

Wait till the end of august.. too many ultrasounds I heard could be dangerous for the baby.

Most people can find out at 18 weeks, if the baby cooperates.

It doesn't hurt to ask. Usually they will do it if you have been having problems (ex:bleeding, cramping, etc.) If you do get one and the baby is in the right position, you should definately be able to tell what the sex is. Good luck!
