Hi, my daughter is 5.5 mths pregnant, and her friends daughter has just had chicken pox, i know it can be dangerous if my daughter should catch it while pregnant but she has already had it a few years ago, but my question is, if she should go round there is there any chance of maybe her friend getting shingles from her daughters chicken pox and my daughter catching shingles off of her, sounds confusing but i hope you know what im getting at, any help please. Thankyou.

you don't catch shingles, its caused by the remnents of the chicken pox virus, which lays dormant in your system. An outbreak of shingles in a young healthy person is rare, but it is possible for your daughter to get a 2nd chicken pox infection, especally if her first case was mild. She needs to call her OB for more advice, but she is probably safe.

i would ask the doctor that question. I am not sure if she can get shingles from chicken pox. they would be considered open sores so that would point to yes. but my doc never said anything about staying away from people with chicken pox since I already had it. i would say safe. but check just in case.

She should talk to her doctor about it, but I don't think she should expose herself. I'm not sure if they're dangerous all through the pregnancy, or just in the first trimester. The doctor would know.

Although she's had pox before, you can catch it twice, so she shouldn't go until she's seen her doc.
